Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Mbia claims Everton interest

Cameroon international Stephane Mbia has claimed Everton are planning a summer swoop for his services.
Reports in France suggest the Toffees are planning to table an offer in the region of €12million (£10million) for the 23-year-old defensive midfielder.
Mbia, who plays his club football for Rennes, admits he is interested in a move to the Premier League.
Fully aware of his desire to leave, the Ligue 1 club are believed to have placed a €14million price tag on their prized asset.
Toffees boss David Moyes is expected to sign a handful of players to bolster his small squad having been constantly hampered by injuries last term.
Interest

Excited by the prospect of a possible move to Merseyside, Mbia claims the Goodison Park club have already expressed an interest in obtaining his signature.
"I have been aware of Everton's interest since last year when I almost joined them," he said.
"I am keen to join them because, if what is reported is true, they have said that they want me and that they value me as a player."
He added: "I am waiting on news. I have not heard anything yet, but for me it is time to move on in my career.
"I have already told the club (Rennes) of my desire to leave but they have the final say.
"They know and understand my position."

not only am i not a fan , but do we really need mbia as a priority , especially for the price quoted ? wont we be paying a lot of money for someone who could possibly only amount to more or less the exact same bit part role as castillo ?

neville rodwell cahill fellaini arteta , thats 5 top players who will be fighting it out for our 2/3 central midfeild positions.
i understand the need for quality competition for places and cover , but who would you drop from those 5 for mbia ? (at the risk of upsetting a player or the squad perhaps)

id rather spend the money on a quality wide man.
in that position osman gosling and pienaar isnt enough to get us through next season imo.(arteta wants to play center and imo is classier there)

We haven't signed him yet, don't worry so much. He could turn out to be better than all of them bar Arteta anyway, we don't really know do we. Also I'm sure if we did sign him, then we would sign some other players as well, most likely a wide player.

If we signed him, it would clearly mean Neville would play RB when Arteta was fit. Ive been impressed with Pip this season, but surely not even Moyes could pick Neville in CM over Rodwell, Arteta, Fellaini, Mbia or Cahill, surely????

(None of this matters if we sign him and hes crap)

its just a slight concern when you see these kind of rumours , that we could blow half (if not more) of our budget on a player who we dont really need , is overpriced and who imo lacks class and ability anyway.

but then again , in moyes we must trust.
we have had players before ive hated signing who have ended up doing well ,and vice versa.

So, to summarize:

1. You think Phil "Can't shoot or pass a ball to save his life" Neville is good enough as our def mid?

2. You think you know better than Moyes that M'Bia lacks class and ability. How many times have you seen this player?

3. Furthermore, you can also judge a player's worth better than Moyes?

1.like i said i just think another big money signing in midfeild would make us top heavy in that area , while light in others (i would just rather spend such a big fee on improving other areas).also ...Phil "Can't shoot or pass a ball to save his life" Neville ? well moyes bought him so do you think you know better than moyes now?:)

2. never said i did or didnt know better than moyes , but i have my own opinion (as you have with neville).the way mbia (or his agent) has pimped himself about showed a lack of class/respect for his current club imo (ask rennes fans if they like his attitude), also ive seen him play quite a lot (mostly league but a few times internationally)and have rarely seen him show any ability which make me thinks hes anything that special.

3.no

I think this is the case as well. I like Neville, especially this season, but I cant see him as a right back. He's the wrong side of 30 and against a pacy winger he will get lost, much like Hibbert has. I think we should put the funds into the right side of the field, but I have also heard ( and it may well be a big pile of [Poor language removed]!) that M'Bia can play RB.

I would much rather we got Naughton and a good winger then finish off the window with someone like Moutinho.

I thought this...until the news about Naughton.

You can tell there's holes in this story because I've heard figures between £4m and £10m now, and apparentyl his value went down from last season when they were talking about £8m so it's ballsack

Not necessary, if his contract wasn't re-signed, despites club attempts. It usually brings the price down.
Also, the ACN is this winter, not a best moment for value of African players.
