Matthew Pennington

Didn't like the look of him the back end of last season and still don't like the look of him defensively now.

22 years old he needs to be playing regularly in a competitive league to prove himself, seemed to do well in the lower leagues so could be another Forshaw type who needs to go out and develop through the leagues before reaching the top tier if he can get there.

very bad introduction for me,had a hand in the 3 conceeded, didnt make the tackles etc,and basically got caught out way to much, would have subbed him after about 20mins myself

@bluestevon this is why I was pushing for Kenny not to play in this one

Pennington has been thrown to the wolves here, and the expected result is happening

Fair enough mate, he was tore a new one today no arguments, williams really left him hanging out to dry though, expect far more from him - Pennington - glad he scored - hopefully that stops his confidence from plummeting and he learns from it.

As for Kenny - it's easier playing fullback than cb in this type of game mate, but wouldnt have mattered anyways as basically no one turned up for us and tactics where a bit ify as well

Everyone ignoring the mitigating factors and calling for a cull

Again, he's been injured and hasn't played all season

He should have been eased back in to the first team set up, not chucked into the away Derby FFS

Said previously that i wasn't impressed by Pennington when i've seen him playing last season, thought he may have progressed as some had said his under 23 form had been impressive, but doubt he is at the level we will need going forward - then again as i just said, today williams for me was utterly woeful

Anyone would struggle in this scenario

He hasn't played senior football in nearly a year, and was then thrown into a Derby match, at Anfield

He did well at the tail end of last season then got a serious injury

He looked rusty to me, which was to be expected after so long out

The wrong game to play him in, and to be fair he only played because Koeman had few options and was making the most of what he had

I'm not especially mad at Koeman for picking him, what annoys me is the people sticking the boot in and not appreciating the mitigating circumstances. He deserves another chance IMO, the calls to cull are ridiculous

Too soon to write Pennington off, this has been a ridiculous ask of him

No first team minutes all season and coming off a serious injury

Too soon to judge him, but I fear the die will be cast for some now

Not impressed with him last season either. In those 4 games.
