I think he's got real potential and he's also good in the air, which is a weakness in the team.

Yes absolutely. There is a complete lack of leadership and it says a lot that two of those who showed a bit of leadership were our centre halves.

Pennington seems to have a good approach to the game. He doesn't get flustered by mistakes, believes in his abilities but also knows his limitations.

Completely agree, was impressed with his comments after the Bournemouth game where he stated you can't dwell on any mistakes you've made in the game, instead you've got to keep playing as you should. Good mental approach to have from a youngster. He reminds me a bit of Jagielka in how he plays.
 
I thought he did ok again today - didn't do too much wrong and the penalty was slightly harsh (and definitely offside). Even though Funes Mori is available again, I'd keep Pennington in for the last two games.

He's a "proper defender" in the Jags style , so the perfect partner for Stones in that he's happy to let Stones go waltzing forward and provide the cover, knows his limitations and where he can plays the simple ball, even if it goes backwards.
This is where I worry about the quality of our back room staff, without wishing to turn this into a fume thread. They should be working with him on defensive drills all week , talking about positioning when defending, what he does when Stones goes forwards, where he positions himself at corners etc. Ironically probably the best person to do this is Jagielka, get him involved in helping the lad. Forget about the nonsense of needing 50/100 games , 1000 training hours or whatever just give him practical support and help him to perform to his best.

Hopefully we'll see a significant improvement in our back room staff this summer.
 

Penalty aside,kinda hard to fault him on it,thought he had a brillant game today probably mom for me.good on both feet,reads the game,decent positioning.if we sell stones id have no worries about him being back up to mori and jags next season with the view to him getting his fair share of game time.jags pushing on now.he has done well on his 2 loans and aquitted himself well now with the first team.well done to the lad.

Yes, he is the opposite of Browning in many ways. And yes he is Jagielka like, probably not quite as courageous and quick as Jagielka at his best. However I think he is a bit better with the ball at his feet.

What I like him, is that he gets lots of blocks in. Like good strikers, some have an instinctive ability of attracting the ball to them. He is like that. He gets lots of blocks in. Next week I would happily play him right back if Mori has to come in.

I wonder if Browning is as quick as people say. Would like to see more of him next season.

I'd play him with FM.Think we need to use the last two games to experiment (even maybe try a natural right back in that position).Young Mr Stones seems to have his head at the Euros already.
 

Are people just cutting him slack because he's a local lad? Because he was absolutely run ragged on Saturday. Doubt he'll be good enough for Premier League level, however I'll wish him all the best for the future
