We've been well worse since Rom left and we've been worse this season than last since Gana left. The drop off hasn't been extreme because good players can only drive you so far unless they're Messi or something but Rom and Gana playing at a high level in 16/17 is by far our best season since 13/14.

You must remember gana playing in the 16/17 season totally different to me.

I remember him being boss then he went to the acon and when he came back he was very poor. To the point that in our last 6 games of the season he got subbed off at half time 3 times.

He also used to love a early booking which rendered him useless e.g spurs away booked in the 29th minute we lost 3:2, United away booked in the 45th we drew 1:1, Burnley at home in the 29th subbed off at half time we won 3:1 and west ham away in the 27th subbed off at half time, we drew 0:0.

In fact i remember schnidelin being way better then him for the rest of the season when he came in. The season after gana wasn't amazing either just avarage really.

Last season he was boss, even more so when a move for psg was on the cards but let's not pretend he was a 10 out of 10 every game he played for us.

He was always the key to our defense being competent from the moment he arrived. Even when he wasn't playing well he was still vital. The Schneiderlin thing only happened because Gueye was really good too. We've seen Schneiderlin without that cover. Williams looked competent too.

Weirdly Ashley Williams managed a very good career before he started playing behind Gana.

Not really interested in going down the Ashley Williams road. Something tells me you won't say he's better than someone who he clearly isn't better than like you have with Gueye though.

We havent conceded more or lost more games than we did Gana. He was a crap tackle merchant who didnt improve us at all.

We finished 11th with Lukaku twice and we havent scored less goals since he left.

Both players wanted to leave.

A crap tackle merchant?

Considering his job was to tackle and break up play I don't know what else you want from him. He was a great player hence why one of the best teams in Europe wanted him so badly

How are you coming to the conclusion delph is a better player though regardless of what you think gana brought to the team ( because all delph brings is a bad attitude )

We also finished 5th and 7th with lukaku, got to 2x semi finals and had a good Europa campaign
What have we done since he left? We've sacked 3x managers and had a constant worry about relegation ( I never at any point thought we would actually go down like )

If you take away Lukakus goals we would have still finished 7th.

I do love that.

I remember Gana and schnidelin notoriously couldn't play together, like it being blindingly obvious they couldn't play together.

If he was so key to our defence being competent then why did they fall to bits in koemans second season? Gana was still there

Personally I think with Williams, he was a good solid cb that had no affiliation with the club so the next season when his legs gave in he just stopped trying because he didn't care about this club.

Gueye had his best season before he left and that was probably because he had a gentleman's agreement with PSG and Everton that if he stayed in good form the move would materialise later. £30m for a near 30 year-old was good business. Gbamin looks to have better technique, more power running with the ball, and better physical traits. Losing both Gomes and Gbamin was harsh. Delph has also been injured and we were forced to play Sigurdsson as an out and out CM.

It's honestly weird why we fell to pieces so quickly on that end. I think much like this season in the first half of the year the lack of goal scoring inflated our goal conceding as we were often chasing games. For example we lost a game 4-0 at United where Gana came off at 1-0 to chose the game.

I think that squad also realized the uselessness of managers and quit in games against teams they knew they couldn't beat with the given tactics. 4-0 at Spurs and 5-1 at Arsenal come to mind.
