Martinez

Nice little first for Martinez during the most recent episode of Stick to Football.

I watch this most weeks and he’s the first one to not be mentioned as a guest in the thumbnail, they had a better manager than him on as a guest for the last two weeks in a row (he was awful) and on both occasions his first name was used in the thumbnail.

YouTube generates clicks via views, views happen by people being lured in. Guess this fraud wasn’t deemed to be enough of an attraction, or at least not more important than Neville “annoying Arsenal fans”😂😂😂IMG_8643.webp

He was given time and he did have some very good players but all I will say is Everton finished fifth and had Stones McCarthy Barkley Lukaku down the spine, and what did we do?

Backed it up by adding 4 mill Besic and a few loan players. Yes we paid out for a Lukaku but as usual it was a case of gradual squad decline to the point people don’t notice window to window until you’re a few seasons later and you have Cleverely Niasse Funes Mori and Lennon turning out for you.

Martinez's reign was pretty much the last time we saw any attempt to play ball to feet football at this club on a consistent basis.

The fans - when the results / league position turned average - weren't prepared to stick with it. That was down to the culture Moyes and his predecessors brought in of direct football...we had a whole generation of fans brought up on that muck and when Martinez's players couldn't sustain results they rebelled against it like they were potty-trained to do.

I notice in that video by the way that Roberto put Neville in his place about Everton being a club where supporters have traditionally liked the long ball and a huff and puff 'competitive' team. Martinez reminded the dullard Neville about Everton's real traditions and the school of science. Him and Carragher have been carrying out a campaign to degrade this club for years with their snide sniping: Carragher because he hates Everton fans for destroying Gerrard his mate; Neville because he's utterly 'kin thick about football history and believes football started in 1992 with the PL.

The problem is European football requires not only a bigger squad, but also regular European football to pay for the bigger squad.
We added players to fill out numbers who were not good enough to justify enlarging the squad.
If we’d have spent more/better then, and got into Europe again for a couple of seasons after, we wouldn’t have been left with an oversized, overpaid squad on a reduced income.

Bill trying to cut corners cost us, and set up our financial problems for the next decade.

Funes Mori cost a decent amount, didn't he? I can't be bothered to check, but I'm sure you'd find a defender moving around the same time and cost who would've been much better than him for Everton.

We’ll need 40 man squad to be able to accommodate both the subs and any players he buys but refuses to play.

Yes, great to see that. The media perception of the' everton way' is almost entirely framed within the PL context and there is a large portion of our own fanbase that have bought into it.

On your first point, Martinez didn't help himself by not acknowledging the circumstances he was in. His insistence that everything was fine and average results were 'phenomenal' became embarrassing.

Yes, but he was fighting a media campaign against a narrative that had us in 'relegation' trouble when we went to 12th in the table at one point.
