Martinez sets Everton FC's bar high after derby draw

At the moment, we're not quite averaging enough to get 70 points. It's the games against the lesser teams that will get that average back up where it needs to be, he's right there, Martinez. Big game against Stoke. It'd be great to hit our stride there and get ourselves confident in those games. It's why the sh*te are 3 points ahead of us as things stand, we need to be swatting the likes of the Potters aside.

Stoke has actually taken on quite a significance this weekend.

Posting the three points on the board is a must with these two tough trips coming up.

I personally would take four points right now, a win, a draw amd a loss.......and then we have a handy enough looking four ir five gammes in arow to carry on carrying on.

What a better outlook we have as a club. 70 point target and go from there. I hated Moyes for playing everything down saying 40 pts should be the main hurdle. It got it into the players heads that once 40 is achieved, psychologically they'll take their work rate down a notch.

I'm glad things have changed.

Absolutely agreed mate. I could accept him saying it for the first couple if years he took over but after that with the "we have no right to expect top half league placings" ****e and lowering expectations before a ball has been kicked done my but in. Are we gonna win the league? 99.9% sure we won't but along the way let's try and give a few teams a good hiding and play some good togger along the way.

True, to get 70 points, we must average 1.84 points per game, right now it 1.75 points which will give us 66 points over 38 games

In the last 10 years, the team in 4th place had the following points after 38 games:

Arsenal 73
Spurs - 69
Arsenal - 68
Spurs - 70
Arsenal - 72
Liverpool -76
Arsenal - 68
Arsenal - 67
Everton - 61
Liverpool - 60

As you can see, even 70 points might not be good enough

"It doesn’t matter who you are playing against. What was great to see is we went eye-to-eye and we were the better side in open play. Now the next step is to get three points in those situations"

Spot on Roberto. Three points from our dominance in these games, not a pat on the head is what we want. Get it drilled into them.

My (pre start of season) analysis shows us 1 point behind where we need to be to get 70 points (which was my end point). According to my said analysis, we dropped 2 points against WBA , Cardiff ,Spurs and Crystal Palace. Total of 8 points 'missed'
We gained 3 points vs Chelsea
We gained 2 points vs West Ham and Villa

Net loss then of 1 point. Which means an end point of 69 points.

The next 3 games I have only 3 points projected (W,L,L) but then 12 points (W,W,W,W) up to new year.

Yeah, I know, I need to get out more!
