That being said, we have had a good run recently. Doesn't make the criticism any less valid, but in his defence, we're nearing the end of the season now and the players seem to be on their holidays.

He has done well lately especially changing the tactics.
My worry is what he sees in naismith who was shocking yesterday.
Barkley was great against united why drop him for a player who looks lost in midfield.
Saying that like i have said before i will give him some time now and get behind him

Naismith thrives in the gaps left by other players.

I suppose the reasoning was that Villa with their high pressing would leave gaps for him to exploit.

The problem being that there wasn't enough linking between midfield and attack because barry was so deep and mccarthy couldn't get as far up as he has been under the 4-1-4-1 because barkley wasn't creating space. So it became disjointed.

McCarthy also had a pretty ad game by his standards.

I can understand what Martinez was trying to do the probblem was

1) performances were rubbish (mirallas especially)

2) Villa had something to play for 8th place trophy isn't that good tbh

One of our major problems has been shoehorning naismith into the midfield,as soon as the manager left him out we won 5 out of 6 games.
Playing naismith confuses the system we have been playing and when he gets the ball he gives it away most of the time.
Martinez made a big mistake yesterday picking him its as simple as that.

I agree now but I didn't really realise how vital Barkley had been in that midfield position till he was left out.

Is there not an argument that although we beat the mighty burnnley with 10-men it wasn't all that good of a performance? And despite victory changes were warranted. No one deserved to be dropped from last week, no one.

First loss in six games and the 'Martinez outers' are back out in force. Bad games happen. I agree that our winter period was beyond shocking but we've got past that now, hence our recent run of form. Yes yesterday wasn't the best but it was hardly December/January form was it?
