That said, he's still in the top 5 all time Everton keepers.

I only go back to the mid/late 60's but

Neville Southall
Nigel Martyn and
Gordon West

were streets ahead of Tim Howard.

To be honest, I'm not convinced he's massively better than the likes of Dai Davies, David Lawson and even Andy Rankin.
Basically, given some of the bog average stuff ( George Wood, Richard Wrong and Paul Gerrard for example ) we've had between the sticks in the last 50 years I'd say "top 5" is damning him with faint praise.

He's decent, but nothing special.

Martyn was very good in his prime...but not better than Howard in a blue shirt.

Hmm, this isn't so. I had a season ticket for the Martyn years and he was the ghost of Southall. All we ever did in the boozer was lament that we hadn't signed him as Southall's replacement in 1996.

Unbelievable comment. Martyn was top drawer at Everton, whereas Howard is a B/C level player who got binned for Roy Carroll.

As for Martinez, the moment he tries to sign Tom Cleverly in the summer should be the moment he gets sent packing.

When Tom Cleverley is confirmed as our first signing in the summer, that will rubber-stamp it for me. The man needs to go
