In fact, if and when Martinez goes (either short or long term) that'll be his legacy: breaking Everton away in the public's mind as being seen as a direct up and at 'em style of club to one looking to play through teams and control the game on the deck.

Let's just hope when that time arrives we dont crawl back into the primordial swamp Martinez dragged us out of after Sgt Major Moyes' years in charge. The School of Science has to remain open.

It wasn't just them though. They were on the wind up, but 99% of pundits called it right: "Everton are direct".

It was what it was...direct up and under footy allied to a Pienaar/Baines attack on the ground.

Utterly predictable and turgid most of the time.

Not as predictable as the hopeless and pitiful attempt at football we've been trying to play this season

No chance. We were swatting teams off the park and doing it with a swagger unseen for years, even under Moyes in his year some games were boring and laboured even playing some alright stuff.

Last season was brilliant and I've never seen anything like it. Proper togger. Centre Mids winning it, spraying it wide, cross coming in and Lukaku toeys home, wasn't like that under Moyes. We still mixed it up and went long to Felli 85% of the time.

Fair enough if you think that but I'd seen us pick teams apart under Moyes plenty of times in a similar manner.

I also saw us labour at times last year as well. It's all secondary anyway because we've clearly been found out and that brand of football needs a huge rethink from Martinez now.

The people that want him to stay a 3rd year what makes you think he will turn it round then after the mess he has got us in now.
He has had 4 transfer windows to bring his players in and money will be tight.
Given the extended contracts to hibbert, howard, osman and barry who will hardly feature next season how will he sort it

There's as much chance of repeating year 1 as there is of year 2. He's a football bloke and I just think and expect he'll get it right. Anyone who can squeeze £6M out of a professional Club for Victor Anichibie deserves

Not a huge rethink, just a few little tweaks and we'll be rolling.

1. Change the keeper
2. Employ two wingers
3. No more 3 CDM's.

We've ALWAYS tried to get on the ball and control it never treat it as a hot potato - as Moyes and his nineteenth century methods dictated.

It'd take an awful lot to rehabilitate Moyes and repackage him as a football manager of any note.

How about signing Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill, John Stones, Seamy Coleman, Jags, Pienaar, Oviedo and others for £5m or less a go?

How about taking over a team desperately avoiding relegation every season and turning us into a top 6/7 side, even getting us into champs league?

Jesus, no one is saying he's flawless, but surely he will go down as a football manager of note.

I would be shocked if that happens. The possession football is very much based on the restrictive nature of the central midfielders.

That's director of football stuff, not managing a team with the ball.

On that side of the game Moyes will always be seen as a duffer.

He was utterly found out at United and on a global stage. The man had fans flying planes over the ground desperately begging for him and his methods to be taken and dumped deep under he sea.

I don't really care about the brand of football, I just want results and to see us competing up the higher end of the table.

Generally you're going to be playing decent stuff to finish in the top 7 on a consistent basis. It's just common sense.
