What an utterly bizarre claim. Never did he come across that way, He stated he had a view on how football should be played. That's all.

But but but...if Martinez's first season was due to Moyes' defence, then wasn't Koeman's decent season down to the attack he inherited...?

If we're going to be consistent like....:coffee:

And there we have it.

Game. Set. Match.

The Belgian team is full of star players.

If he took over a team like Swansea, the miserable espaino will relegate them. And it'll be fun to see.
lol

The lack of understanding of Martinez's history with that club is pretty embarrassing.

He created the modern day Swansea. He took them from nothing (almost oblivion) got them to the Championship and embedded at the club a style of football that was left in place after he left, carried on by others to get them PL football and stayed in place until that fool Gary Monk started to break it down.

Oh bloody hell. I take back everything I ever said about him. What a true Goliath of the game.
Well his relative failure with us isn't going to be surmounted by Belgium's golden era.
He will need to rebuild his reputation. QF / SF in the WC will get him back in the prem.

By the way I mean a club like the current Swansea or those sort of club (size).

Will be fun to see when he is back actually. I am sure all people will be "entertained" in different sort of way. I guess by the time you will find all sort of excuse for his failure. In the meantime, we can just wait and see.

Failure?

I dont understand.

Circumstances like relegate a small PL club again or failed to do his job at a big club like Everton. But face it Everton was/would be his biggest job in PL.
That small PL club had the best moment of its existence that it'll never experience again under RM. A small price to pay for dropping down to their natural level.

I wasn't sure where to ask this question. But i think i'll ask it here seeing that this thread is about Belgian football. @Armel What club side do you support in Belgian? It's just something im curious about.I would have a preference for Anderlecht, seeing that Ajax fans have a friendship with their supporters. They had a fine team in the years the great Rob Rensenbrink played for them.

Rob of course was one of the Netherlands greatest ever players. But seeing that he spent the vast majority of his career, in Belgium the USA and France, he never got the recognition he deserved in his own country.

Very true Dave. Wigan staff and supporters all like Martinez. I had a private tour of the DW last year with a couple of Aussie friends, and everyone we spoke to had nothing but praise for the work he did at Wigan.Winning the FA Cup is a brilliant memory for them all, and lets face it, they were well above their natural level when they were in the Prem.

He resurrected Swansea from near oblivion to the cusp of the PL and was the architect of their playing style for years to come.
He gave Wigan their best ever football memory and their one and only significant trophy.
He gave Everton their best ever PL season in terms of wins and points gained - a record that will stand for years, unfortunately.
He qualified Belgium for the WC - scoring more goals and earning more points than they ever had before in qualifying.

Clearly the fraud that those who backed the two geniuses Moyes and Koeman have claimed him to be.

Martinez was a baffling mix of sublime and ridiculous at Everton. I think that the downturn in his fortune after that fabulous first season was due to that season being the point in which many of the players he inherited from Moyes peaked.

Pienaar and Osman were integral to his style of play but that was their last full productive season. Howard, Distin, Jags and Baines started to slide badly thereafter and Oviedo never recovered from his terrible unfortunate injury. Mirallas arguably had his last generally productive season that year too. Barkley was often inconsistent and expected to carry the creative flag alone.

This would not have been so much of a problem if his undoubted transfer hits (Barry and Lukaku, in patches Delefeou, Mccarthy for a season) were supplemented by / replaced with the necessary quality. Kone, McGeady, Alcaraz, Funes Mori, Niasse et al, to differing degrees, are arguably patchy signings.

The Eto'o signing, whilst meant to make a statement, backfired because he was clearly a disruptive tit. Of course, some of our subsequent signings are head scratches too. Martinez is not unique in this area and may well have been let down by the board. Regardless my view is squad quality in key areas dipped after season 1 Martinez (and arguably STILL hasn't been addressed).

So yes, promising beginnings let down by squad building strategy imho. Can't overlook his sometimes baffling disregard for shutting down games either.

A shame, it could have been wonderful.
