Martinez Interview

Perhaps you're right, and perhaps he isn't ready and it'll be too much too soon. He's always impressed me though.

I'm just sick of seeing that melt making mistake after mistake, every single one of which seems to lead to a goal. He seems to have much slower reactions than he used to, Newcastle pointed that out nicely.
I'm equally bored of it, but I don't want a couple of potential prem players thrown in the deep end because we are having a rough time of it. I like both Browning and Ledson and the little cameos for Browning are perfect for him. But a full debut seems too much just now.

Good interview with RM and even if you don't like the style I think the logic (sticking with your plan) is solid. We've had worse luck than most (our mistakes have been punished by opponents more than average -- that will hopefully regress), injuries, decisions etc. Not to say we'd be doing great without those of course. It's been a horrible few months EFC-wise but I for one think Bobby will turn it around.

I've still got faith in him there's no point going into panic, but when we look a shadow of the team last season he needs to be looking at himself as much as the players. Football doesn't stand still and teams alter and improve their tactics all the time. By saying he won't change anything he's coming across as stubborn and a touch belligerent, especially as the current tactics look so far removed from the successful dynamic team of last season.

There's only one person who's likely to get us playing good winning football again and he is saying he's closed his mind to new ideas and improvements, that's just a crazy thing to say.

he is saying he's closed his mind to new ideas and improvements,
I don't think that's what he's saying mate.

It's more a case of not abandoning a style of play that he believes will bring success in the future. I'm sure that he is looking at plenty of ideas to help improve things provided it is not to the detriment of his long term goals.

No matter which way you feel about what is happening, there is no denying it is risky.

About the "deadwood" to which reference has been made, a fact being overlooked is that new contracts or extensions were handed out which will keep same at the club for too long, who was responsible for that?

In the guardian he's quoted as saying

You don’t win games by changing the style. You win games by being very good at what you do. Changing only brings doubts. I’ve been in this situation too many times

Those aren't the words of somebody prepared to look to alter a failing pattern of sterile play and try something different, we can still be a passing team and also have a change in urgency reverting back to a more aggressive style we had last season. Its his failure to recognise or admit the difference in the teams style and performances between this season and last that concerns me as much as anything, if he finds it an acceptable level we really could be in for a rocky ride.

Football is a results business, forget about philosophy for a while and get some points in
Leaking goals is demoralising, get this issue sorted ffs, it's not achieved by passing the ball around and into your box and then losing the ball

I read it differently mate. I don't think he has set the team up to play in a less aggressive style to last season, rather the players themselves are lacking the confidence and drive to do so - this is what he should be focusing on.

I'm also sure that he has recognised that our performances are below the standard of last season as well.

Yeah we desperately need points and wins and like you say leaking awful goals is demoralising and so is getting beat by teams who are man for man inferior to us. But more gulling is this persistence with a limp attacking threat, last season at Utd we had our two fullbacks pushing right on in the final minutes searching for a winner, this year at home to Hull in the last minute we passed it all the way back from an attacking position right back to Howard. It's happened time and again this season so it's no coincidence and he's coming out saying he's happy with performances and we don't need to do anything different??

WTF that about really?

I have faith that he will turn it around in the 2nd half of the season. Players are struggling for confidence at the moment but that will all return in 2015! Here's to a good year :)

Sorry mate.

Ingraining the style of play into the club will help the young players coming through the ranks to adjust to playing in the first team easier (thereby making the phasing out of the old guard less painful).

To abandon that for a short term gain would make it harder to progress long term.
No problem in that but I fail to see where 200 passes between the back 4 is going to progress the everton system. There is a big difference between the way for example barca play and the way way we are playing now. Xavi and inestia seek the ball move it forward and work in the oppositions half. We did last year. Now we work in our own half and are prone to mistakes. 10 direct goals came from mistakes this season alone. The intensity is not there at pressing the ball like a possession team like barca do. We stand off like as if the other team has herpes and then when the shoot g Barry will turn his back. You don't need coaching badges or manuals to get basics right
