Martinez Interview

Yeah we desperately need points and wins and like you say leaking awful goals is demoralising and so is getting beat by teams who are man for man inferior to us. But more gulling is this persistence with a limp attacking threat, last season at Utd we had our two fullbacks pushing right on in the final minutes searching for a winner, this year at home to Hull in the last minute we passed it all the way back from an attacking position right back to Howard. It's happened time and again this season so it's no coincidence and he's coming out saying he's happy with performances and we don't need to do anything different??

WTF that about really?
Maybe he thinks it will pass, rather than that it needs to be addressed
If we're totally Sussed out then he's wrong
If he has some refinements of his system then it'll pass ( not backwards hopefully!)

Bobby has deffo said that he rates Browning, and Ledson could start coming off the bench/starting against lesser teams. It's the only way for them to learn. I'd rather try that than watch Distin hoof the ball aimlessly upfield or give it away under pressure, just my opinion.
I like that. I like he's not changing course on his outlook when the first test comes in order to pander to the divvies on the telly.

He's absolutely right too: you need to take every scrap of evidence on board to decide whether the way he sees the game being played is the right one, not just the way we've been playing in a slump.
I agree the system is the right one as if we have the ball they cannot score. The problem arises when our defence is put under pressure. We either give the ball away in a dangerous area or hoof it long and lose possession. Distin and Jags are not ball players and need replacing for this system to work. there are also occasions where hoofing would be a good option as long as it was played into an area where either ROM or kev could attack it. It would also discourage teams from pressing us so high up the pitch and make us less predictable.

It wont until the players regain their confidence and start to play like they did at times last season.

That is what Martinez needs to work on with them at the moment.
Quite right BB hope he's doing this work with them and not being all testosteroned up
He's to a big performance against the Tigers with Bobby's formula 2

We have been in this position under moyes at this time of the season, and i couldnt see us getting any better and was worried. We had no style except lump it up and hope for a piece of luck. Guess what, we did get better and things started to work for us. I am sure this will happen this season. Hopefully starting tomorrow.

I wish you'd post that every time the debate gets a little excessive. Football is, like many things, a cyclical experience. Good players lose form or confidence. And inexplicably regain form and confidence. Luck hangs over proceedings. And the accompanying thought and chatter often don't accurately track them. Not saying that Martinez is beyond criticism, only that the consumerist ideal of wanting things to be just so and ranting when they're not has its limits...

I think making a few slight alterations to the current lineup would provide us with the desired results. Players like Barry and Distin are not only aging and out of form, they do not fit the current system Martinez is trying to play. While Stones is out, IMO it is worse to keep playing Distin or Alcaraz in a bit of a dead end situation than it is to play someone like Browning and throwing him out there next to Jagielka who is experienced and is a good player despite his play this season.

With Barry, it is tough to trust him given his play during the Newcastle match. I believe it was the first Newcastle goal, he would really make a concerted effort NOT to challenge Sissoko and that set up the free kick that led to the goal. He has had maybe one or two good games this season, and while he was one of our better midfielders last year it is time to keep him in the "Break In Case of Emergency" glass. Besic is a better fit for the role in this system that Martinez is playing and is continuing to play, and Barry is simply not good enough anymore.

Edit - Barry should also not have been captain on Sunday. Did not deserve it in any way.

The evidence is far more than this season's efforts.

He rightly underlines in that interview that his method of playing allows his teams to be able to compete against organisations with greater resources. He's proven that at Swansea and Wigan and last season at Everton. The weight of evidence backs him up big style over the sweep of his career in management.

Anyone not accepting that is not really paying attention or just not prepared to be reasonable.

Still your way or the highway I see

Thought it would at least get to page 2 before someone compared Martinez to Hitler...
I heard/read somewhere there's been a study that determines internet debates will godownhill when someone makes a comparison to Hitler.

It's also generally considered that the person who makes the comparison has lost the argument.

Sorry K.
