Martinez a bit hesitant today

By the way, I think five minutes from the end and the three minutes time added on we got it back under control and strolled it...could and should have popped in the third if McCarthy had touched the ball left for Lukaku in the box.

Osman and Pienaar both taken off with knocks.

You know the squad is stretched when Gueye makes the bench.

Haha did he make the bench today?!. Seems we really are struggling for numbers now in the squad. Barkley may be out for longer, Jela possibly on his way out, Alcaraz didn't play due to injury or what ever, Pienaar & Ossie had knocks. We are becoming stretched abit.

So its around the 70th minute and we are cruising and look set to score another couple of goals. Martinez then decides to put Heitinga on and switch to a 3-5-2. Thats ok and worth a try to see how we adapt, but as soon as that change happened we got totally dominated by Norwich and I really think Martinez should have seen this quicker because they had about 5 very good chances to score and all these chances were due to the tactic change as we lost grip of the match.
I thought Martinez should of subbed Stones for a midfield player or moved Heitinga further forward and gone straight back to the 4-2-3-1 because had we conceded which probably should of happened we could of thrown away a massive 2 points.
But as it was we got away with it but them last 20 minutes were a hell of a lot more nervy than they needed to be and I just felt Martinez could of acted quicker. This is in no way a gripe at Martinez because I think hes a legend and the best thing to happen to Everton for decades, but this was probably the first sign of a bit of hesitancy from him when I felt he should of spotted a problem and acted on it.

Spot on mate.

That wouldnt be the reason why their players suddenly found so much space. Surely it would just be a reason for us to be less useful when we are in possession but defensively we seemed all over the place.

It's a reason why they got more and more of the ball, combine that with their need to "go for it" they are going to have some possession. What can't be put down to that is the apparent switch off from particular players.

It would have been nice for us to have put them to the sword so to speak with a few more goals, but it didn't happen and maybe resting key players (or giving others a run out) was more important?

Thats the bare bones we had out there today and as you say we picked up another 2, if Heitinga would have gone to West Ham we might have to field 6 subs? Cant think who else we could have named.

Fair enough mate. If we are going to play if, buts, and maybe's, it's worth considering the amount of chances we had when WE were dominating. Lukaku should of had a few today for example.

It works both ways. To say you knew better would be naive at best no?

To be honest, he's got a point. I thought the last 20 we lacked cohesion. Fair play to try it, but it's another example that it doesn't work.

Rom looked sharp

??? So sharp he missed a simple first half header from a yard out. To me he's not breaking a gut to get on the end of things. And he's finding it difficult to get away from his markers.

Oh yeah and to say we SHOULD have conceded is quite ridiculous. It bears no more weight than me saying we SHOULD have scores 8 goals.

Maybe he was trying to get heitinga noticed to other clubs like he did with jelavic . I saw something in paper that norwich are intrested in him

Nothing to get upset about - Redmond looked good in the last 20 minutes and we had to defend - you can't dominate the whole of the game.

I said im not having a go at Martinez at all his tactics were spot on all game but yes Norwich were very unlucky to not score particularly after our change to 3 at the back and I thought Martinez should of acted quicker to prevent them creating chance after chance during that spell. Because when we were at 4-2-3-1 Norwich had chances here and there but at 3-5-2 we were under sustained pressure so surely he should of changed it back?

The problem was Pienaar got injured immediately after the sub. Had Pienaar not got injured we would have been fine. Can't plan for taking a creative player off, only for the most creative player in the game to get injured a minute later.

This.

I think Martinez was thinking along the lines of this:
Howard
Stones Heitinga Jagielka
Coleman McCarthy Barry Baines
Pienaar
Lukaku Mirallas

So Pienaar would've been keeping hold of the ball for us in the middle of the park.

Him and Osman both going off meant we couldn't retain possession like we had been doing so high up the pitch.
