He cant distribute the ball or move out with it to a required standard. That's just the plain truth of the matter.
Jagielka is a meat and potatoes CB; no frills, no football really. A good stopper.

He should be retained, but it's crucial we get two CBs playing that can play football and not just rely on Stones.

I made pork and beef on the Parilla with mashed potatoes and an exquisite malbec 2011.

What you got against meat and potatoes lid?

Simplicity done well consistently is brilliance

Who says it isn't enough? Maybe under Martinez's system our defenders are expect to do a lot more, but look at the likes of Chelsea.

Terry and Cahill / Zouma may sometimes get forward, but they're much more akin to your defender of older than the modern variant.
Top and bottom of it basically.

I think we unnecessarily have a DM hanging back to collect the ball and get moves going. Get two good CBs who can defend and play and we get ourselves as a unit further up the pitch and press a bit harder and more often.

He's holding us back because he needs nurse maiding. And he's cracking on too.

Wish somebody would crack you lad.

Voted "out", just for the crack

In all seriousness, I am happy to hold my hands up and say he's proved me wrong, I thought he was way too stubborn and would never deviate from his tiki-taka approach, but he has done and it certainly worked today. I also like that he's finally woken up to how turd Naismith is, it's pretty self-explanatory how much better we are without him on the pitch. I still think we need to wait until after the summer transfer window to be able to tell if Martinez is the man to take us forward

I said yesterday:

I do believe that, whilst our season has been anything but good, there is still the opportunity for better things to come. I wouldn't be so quick to cast Roberto Martinez in such an unflattering light.

His early season form helped drag us down, it's only fair he was instrumental in steadying the ship.

Not surprised he was rubbish early on.

Did you see that campaign online on a fans forum to get him out the team, no wonder it got to him.

Someone reckoned a thunderbird mary poppins sounding clown form a mickey mouse league was better than him.

If somebody wants a hobby, maybe they should go through the poll on this Martinez Out thread (post Stoke game last month), and highlight which of the 61% that voted 'OUT' have now changed their tune, the bunch of ficklers. 591 voted him out 7 weeks ago, compared to 29 today.

As the EFC Board have known for years, if the team wins a few games, the much bigger picture is ALWAYS forgotten at Everton.
