The organisation that runs them are never seen to make an example of them. Sure, he'll ref in the Championship or League 1 for a game or two but after that, he'll be back and it will be as if nothing happened...as if the millions of people who witnessed it are mugs.

I guess this excellent post begs the question of how corrupt football is
We know FIFA is totally and utterly corrupt why not the FA
Do we just not want to stir the pot because we don't know what's in there
Or are we happy being also rans, let the rich prosper in whatever way they need, corruption or influence
We need more Ferguson less what we've seen
 
Marriner's was a particularly bad display. I wouldn't want to see every other game being 11 v 10 should refs get tougher. In any event there is absolutely no chance of such decisions being made consistently -- so we'd still end up complaining.

I agree but let's highlight problems as we see them rather than bending over and just accepting preferential treatment against us time and again.

Thank you...that's an interesting question and I wonder if deep down inside we know the answer. I've supported Everton for over 30 years and maybe I don't want to know the answer...maybe I'm addicted to supporting them regardless:Blink:
Maybe the Everton hierachy know the score-know their place in the scheme of things-and as hard-nosed businessmen, without the passion of the supporters, don't see the point in rocking the boat. They get their share of the profits so why should they care. Feel sorry for the match-going supporters though who part with their hard-earned cash:(

Hard questions sometimes need to be answered and I think that Marriner lit the blue touch paper on something for a lot of fans, not just fans of our beautiful club
 
So all refs for PL matches are british? I had no idea. If true, it makes no sense to me at all when foreigners own clubs and half the players and coaches are foreigners. Now it makes sense why the PL has such horrible officiating (not because the refs are British, but because the PL is drawing from a limited pool and the quality is bound to be...well...limited).

I hope it has. At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist, Mariner is probably just a puppet. Besides mentioning the "hard-earned cash" I should also mention the emotions invested by supporters. Without the passion of these people, football as a business would be nothing. Can you imagine if supporters decided to turn their backs on football? Besides the game itself, the atmosphere is one of the things I enjoy most about the Premier League. Televised games (and in general) would not be the same and would lack the appeal if stadiums were empty. IMO, that's the only way supporters can teach autocratic organisations a lesson (by boycotting games).

Or by insisting that our club ask questions about stewardship of our games
The standard of refereeing is generally poor, is it conveniently poor to keep the Sky teams where they are?
Sky 4 + 1 was a bit of a joke at the beginning but looks increasingly realistic
Didn't work against Basel this week but maybe UEFA isn't as corrupted

Almost wish I hadn't read this, it tore the scab off and my discontent with PL officiating is raw again. Excellent point. Transparent officiating is one thing that the PL has got horribly wrong. Not sure how many of you follow the NFL, but the PL should really take a page out of the NFL's playbook by going out of their way to explain why rulings were made and what the correct ruling should have been. Every so often the NFL comes out and says the refs botched an important call. TV broadcasts now have a 'rules expert' who can predict with a high degree of accuracy the way a ruling is going to go. Lends huge credibility to the outcome of NFL games. Back in the 90s I remember fans moaning about crooked refs all the time. I don't hear that anymore.

It's exactly the same as domestic boxing fights - two Brits fighting are generally judged by Brits, and as such you see poor calls over and over again.

The easy excuse is to say there's a poor talent pool, but to be blunt in both sports there's rampant and obvious corruption amongst the officials.
