Confirmed Signing Mark Travers

I'd be very happy with this. Travers is really competent, and would easily be our best backup goalie since the early 2000s. It will be good for Pickford too, to have somebody to compete with who realistically could start premier league games. If the quoted price is correct (£5m ish) then it seems like a very smart signing.

When Carlo brought in Robin Olsen, he was better than Travers is now, IMO. Stekelenberg was very good on occasions too.

No, I think they might next summer though.
Everyone has a price. I love Pickford, but we need a succession plan - especially if he gets injured or fancies a change as he gets older. If the new keeper is good enough to genuinely push him, win-win. If we were a proper club, nobody would be guaranteed their place. If we are as dependent on one or two star players in three years time, nothing will have changed.

He is proper meh to me
Yup: mediocrity writ large.

Does a job - if that job is lower mid-table "respectability". When you have one destructive player in midfield (who adds little constructively), the other fella has to be creatively excellent. Garner just isn't. That's not his fault. Fans need to stop becoming attached to players who were only here because the club was a financial Angola.

Fair point.. I think Olsen was probably the closest, maybe I'm being harsh on him. Stekelenburg was decent and dependable but in my opinion Travers is comfortably ahead of him. Other than that, I think he's miles better than the likes of Virginia, Robles, Mucha, Lonergan, Begovic, Lossl, etc, etc.

He's no Espen Baardsen

Good to have a 2nd keeper with some experience of playing regular rather than the usual signing a has been at the wrong end of his thirties to sit on the bench for a season. It`s a position you want a regular first choice that always plays, but if the worst happens and the first choice gets an injury you need a good back up to come in for a run of games. Just need to find another keeper so we can have our usual 2 keepers on the bench.
