That's the problem though - I don't think Brands had a strategy if Zouma failed.

And that's a MASSIVE black mark against him. He's portrayed this master strategist aura and this nukes that in one fell swoop.

That's a ridiculous statement. Our director of football had no strategy to fill a position where cover was needed? Of course he has one. You just don't know it. We don't know also if Rojo was always second choice or further down the list. We don't know the reasons why others on the list couldn't happen if so.
