Marco Silva

I will be happy with Silva. Yes Emery(no English apparently) is available but would he come to us? Would we have to wait a month before he would give us an answer and using us while hoping for a Chelsea to come in? Could lose the likes of Silva in that time. I think Moshiri is right to target a realistic Manager we can get in now than chase the likes of Emery for a month. Also Silva is a reported workaholic which is the opposite of Koeman. His track record on the continent is good. Hull he nearly pulled off a miracle and whatever happened at Watford is a mystery. I am sure Moshiri has someone with a football background doing pre check on all potential targets. If this is the guy he has chosen let’s all get behind him. I’m sure there will be loads of ups and downs. PS didn’t Benitez relegate Newcastle.....
If it's right that he can't speak English it's a non starter from me. Whoever takes over as coach has to be able to communicate clearly with the players. I think that was part of the problem with Koeman and his English was pretty good.

Yeah, definitely not comparing apples and oranges when comparing Shaktar Donetsk to Hull/Watford.

If you want to compare the managers more fairly, compare Fonseca's Donetsk to Silva's Olympiacos.
Did Olympiakos play in their own stadium for their home games? Shakhtar Donetsk's is currently a bomb site.

There's very little that impresses me about Silva's last two years and considerably more that impresses me about Fonseca's.

Their reputations have gone in two different directions. You aren't seeing Silva's name linked to some of the top jobs but you do see Fonseca's. I wonder why?

I didn’t call all Everton fans bitter, I said some are - do you dispute that?

Right you called Everton fans bitter. Putting 'some' in there doesn't change that fact. Be it one or some or all you still called Everton fans bitter.

Whether i believe there maybe bitter fans out there is irrelevant. Its context. You joined the forum today. Your first posts were about how awful everything is and how much you hate the club right now. You followed up with calling fans bitter.

Not exactly a great start on being accepted by genuine fans and posters on the forum. Hence you are getting called a wum, troll, redsh**e supporter etc...

Why would Porto be far more appealing than us mate? I know they have champions league football but their league is poor by comparison and I'm sure he'll at least double his wages in the premiership with a club like Everton.

Agree we're currently out of Simeone's reach but Emery is doable.
Sure, we must enquire for the very best and then work our way down, if you don't ask you get.
Regarding Porto being more appealing, if a manger goes there he will competing for all domestics cups and league plus have regular cracks at CL football.
At us they will be trying to break into the top 6 but earn a pocket full of cash.

I'm not convinced Emery is doable surely Arsenal and Chelsea would at least want to speak with him if he wished to come to the PL, we cant stand still waiting for decisions with the likelihood of being rejected. The Fonseca and Silva ships may have sailed by then, then what?

I'll add 'is their home ground a bomb site' into the equation. lol Regardless of that, I still think it's more fair to compare Donetsk/Olympiacos than Donetsk/Hull. Which might be why very little has impressed you.

As for seeing managers being linked with teams, I think that's a bit naive, considering how the media reports rumours. Let's see where he ends up.

I would prefer Emery, I am beginning to think that Silva may be less of a risk than Fonseca. I think people are reading too much into results at Hull and Watford. Fans normally have a pretty good read on if the manager is improving them/doing a good job and I reckon both of those clubs fans were more than happy with what he produced in his time there. I reckon Watford fans would have been happy for him to stay on. Incidentally a dire run of form over Christmas & early January that did coincide with our pursuit is what really saw him off, win% didn't improve in 2nd half of season compared to when Silva was there.

I agree completely. Silva could be a fantastic success, or bomb, or be somewhere in the middle.

What we do know is that a lot of great managerial careers would have ended early, and dead in their tracks, if other clubs were to take a literal good/bad view of everything, particularly based on early experiences.

I'm nervous about Silva, but I'd be nervous about most other prospective managers who are going to come from the same bracket.

We'll see what he is made of here - he can't afford a short term spell as much as we can't either. All other things being equal, the manager that can drag us from the doldrums into a position to compete will be truly worth his salt in every respect.
Whoever comes in, expectations from our supporters will be the same. Improvement in results, improvement in football quality, minimum 7th place and evidence that we are closing the gap on the top 6. I don't think any supporter would expect or accept anything less.

At least Marco Silva looks the part - like Martinez, his smart and classy appearance makes him (on the surface) a good match for Everton.

Sometimes you just pair managers to teams and it works:
Klopp looks and acts like a nutcase psychopath, which is perfect for the RS.
Kevin Keegan was an over-excited child who couldn't control his emotions as a manger - perfect for Newcastle United.
Mourhino, when he first arrived in England was in it for himself and his ego - perfect for Chelsea with their newfound riches.

To hell with his managerial capabilities. He looks ok on paper and he dresses smartly. Decision made.
Looks smashing in a cravat as well!

Fully agree we can't stand still and see what happens, and Emery will have to be advised of that. It's up to him then whether he want to take that chance. I am a bit surprised that I have seen zero links to either Arsenal or Chelsea and can only assume that they haven't exactly been over impressed by his stint at PSG.
