When I say exciting its more to do with the 'unknown factor' regarding the two I mentioned, instead of the tried and failed muppets who are on the managerial merry-go-round. I am not overly convinced by Silva but I will sure back him if it is him. Could we lure a Simeone/Emery to us? Probably not with a lot of top clubs looking for managers, the problem is we need a manger in now and preparing for next season, can we sit and wait for a month to try and get one of the top managers? Yes we could but then we could be left scraping the barrel again if they reject us.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Porto, PSG all seeking a new manger in the summer and all far more appealing than us.

Why would Porto be far more appealing than us mate? I know they have champions league football but their league is poor by comparison and I'm sure he'll at least double his wages in the premiership with a club like Everton.

Agree we're currently out of Simeone's reach but Emery is doable.

Love the totally objective way you've listed all the bad stuff individually to drag it out and make it look like a massive list and then just crammed the wins in together.

I have no idea whether Silva is a) our realistic first choice, or b) the answer to our problems. It is possible though, that we aren't interested in him simply because of what he did/didn't do at Watford, but because we see something about him that we believe is a good fit for us. I said similar in the transfer thread yesterday, the key isn't looking at whether or not someone is currently doing well, but looking at what skills they bring to the table. If Silva has been identified as a manager with the tactical knowledge and man management skills to succeed then I don't really care what his record was at Watford.

I agree completely. Silva could be a fantastic success, or bomb, or be somewhere in the middle.

What we do know is that a lot of great managerial careers would have ended early, and dead in their tracks, if other clubs were to take a literal good/bad view of everything, particularly based on early experiences.

I'm nervous about Silva, but I'd be nervous about most other prospective managers who are going to come from the same bracket.

We'll see what he is made of here - he can't afford a short term spell as much as we can't either. All other things being equal, the manager that can drag us from the doldrums into a position to compete will be truly worth his salt in every respect.

Would you join a club and when you attend the first meeting or social event expect to get welcomed if all you did was insult the club and its members to there faces on meeting them for the first time.

If you want to compare the managers more fairly, compare Fonseca's Donetsk to Silva's Olympiacos.
