Marco Silva

Not going to give him a chance at all then ? Already pre judged.
People judged fat sam because they knew what he is all about and rightfully so.

People have seen Marco silva and have seen what he has done(1 relegation, 1 sacking - both in his last two clubs)

And are rightfully questioning his appointment.

The next appointment is HUGE, can't get it wrong at all because it will look like he club gives zero times to managers.

Massive Question marks are put against silva, when in reality the next manager needs unifying support and acceptance. I don't see that at all with silva.

Not only that but the recruitment side won't improve that much because silva is a no name in the footballing world.

Get in a top name who is actually good and the recruitment options will automatically improve

I no longer have a firm favorite out of Fonseca or Silva, after compiling the following:

It may be worth comparing Fonseca and Silva during their time in the Portugese Liga NOS.

Let's focus on the 3 seasons that they both managed in that division (Fonseca stayed a season longer than Silva). During those 3 years SIlva managed Estoril for 2 seasons and Sporting for 1 season; Fonseca managed Pacos Ferreira for 2 seasons (separated by a season at Porto). For the sake of argument let's accept that Estoril and Pacos are broadly at similar levels and likewise for SPorting & Porto (although Fonseca may have the slight advantage of his teams being bigger clubs). I have accumulated the stats as Silva's season at Sporting did not coincide with Fonseca's season at Porto (Fonseca has slightly fewer games due to being relieved of his position at Porto). Silva it would appear only got sacked from Sporting because they wanted to appoint Jorge Jesus. The results do not necessarily support Fonseca as clearly being a better manager or support the idea that he would offer more defensive stability.

Silva Games - 94 Win % - 53% Goals F/A - 156/92 Points - 175 Points per Match - 1.86 Average League Position - 4
Fonseca
Games - 85 Win % - 46% Goals F/A - 121/90 Points - 144 Points per Match - 1.69 Average League Position - 4.6

In addition Silva won the Portuguese second division in 11/12 with Estoril, Fonseca the same year came 3rd with Desportivo Aves

I guess it comes down to whether you think a couple of seasons of domestic success in Russia is better preparation to manage in the Premier League or a couple of seasons managing struggling teams in the Premier League is better preparation? Also I would put up Silva's domestic success in Greece alongside Fonseca's achievements at Shaktar.

I agree the defensive frailties shown at Watford and Hull worry me, Silva's stats elsewhere though would suggest these were personnel issues rather than style of football issues. I myself have suggested he could be Martinez MkII, let's hope it is the Martinez football of the 13/14 season and not 15/16. Incidentally BFS who in 15 years in the Premiership has only managed a team who score more goals than they concede in 2 seasons (both Bolton), rather under mines his defensive genius self proclamations.

Isn't that that where Brands comes in?

Won’t have to wait long this will end up last days of Koeman/Unsworth bad

You must have Crystal balls Kev :) Dont think it will be that bad of an appointed myself, his previous record in Portugal compares well with Fonseca. Willing to give him a chance and will be getting my full support, should be giving him two seasons minimum to prove himself.
BTW Kev out of interest who did you want as manager ?

Once he comes in he will have my full support for at least a season to prove himself. It doesn't have to be instant success, I'd settle for 7th and football I can actually stomach watching for next season just to feel like we're actually moving forwards.

Whoever comes in is someone I want to succeed.
Realistically that's the best you're going to get with any manager that comes in seeing how far we are behind the top 6 at the moment. However I'm assuming that Arsenal improve under a new manager and Spurs don't implode (which may possibly happen if they lose Poch and 2/3 of their better players).

For me, improvement is playing much better football, getting closer to the top 6 in terms of both points tally and performances in head to heads, having a good run in both domestic cups, and seeing an noticeable improvement in the development of some/most of our young talent.

Frankly would have held on to Allardyce than go Silva.

What footballer moves clubs because a footballing director is good?

They move because of money, challenging and working under top managers who improve them.

Again I will make a reference to the RS, they still have the same footballing transfer system, difference is klopp has a bigger pull than Rodgers which opens up a bigger market to shop in.

Get a conte class manager in and players will come running to join the project, because

1. It shows the club has ambition.

2. they know they will be working under a manager that will improve them and either win trophies or improve them enough to get a good move.

Good appointment if true, we're a few seasons from getting anywhere near top 4/5th at the moment, so if he can get us fighting for 6/7th and have us playing some watchable football it'll be all good.

Win-win as if it goes boobs up we can give it to Allardyce 'till the end of the season, proven firefighter*

*this is a joke.
