Or, would resignation be seen as a purely personal act on his part, not that the world and its mother wouldn't put 2+2 together.
IIRC, Mike Walker resigned at Norwich under more or less similar circumstances. I recall the late Jim Greenwood on the radio the same morning, deflecting questions very skillfully on it. But I can't recall if we incurred a fine or other such punishment, probably not, though rules may have changed.
Just from memory, I recall the Norwich chairman as well, never forgot his name from the whole episode - Robert Chase. He was right to be furious though.
We certainly don't have people of Jim's calibre steering the ship any longer, what a shame.
