Looking at the counterfactual isn’t a weird angle it’s the ONLY angle!

If Duncan is worse than Marco, what’s the point in sacking Marco?

Silva is proven failure over 18 months. Ferguson isn't.

There was no point persisting with a proven failure.

Ferguson is a caretaker, nothing more. Its doing something rather than nothing.

In reality, Silva should have been sacked in the summer.

Please.. not Duncan as manager. He is supposed to be the striker coach. We have some of the best headers of a ball in the league - Keane, Mina, DCL - even Tosun, Kean, Richarlison, ... 2 or three good wing backs, yet EVERY time they head the ball right at the keeper. Its every time. Liverpool get 5 chances and score 5 times. Even the goals we score from headers they go straight from wherever the player is in relation to the net. The first to go should have been Ferguson. I honestly thing a lot of Everton problems are pure coaching. Why does Keane, a really good defender, have such terrible lapses of concentration? Am I the only one who can see this?

Ever seen him head a ball?

He'll be in charge of one, two games tops. The club statement basically makes it clear he's not being considered for the job full time.

I don't see the problem as long as its a stopgap solution to an actual targeted manager.

That logic is just bonkers. It assumes action is always better than inaction. (Cf. the Unsworth experiment.) It means you could put anyone in regardless of qualification or ability just because there’s no historical evidence of them failing.

Rather, we should be making proactive decisions that — crucially — we think will improve things. Appointing Duncan is precisely not that, regardless of how Marco has done this season or last or ever!

But we're not appointing Ferguson. What we're doing is not tolerating overwhelming failure.

I can't for the life of me understand how any Evertonian could have a problem with the sacking of Silva. It's... weird.

Not at all it was simply rank bad management not continuing the only successful appointment Mosh has made for an unproven Portuguese whim. Should never listen to subsections of a fanbase that way lies anarchy and failure as we're seeing
Successful? Sam had the same average points return as Unsworth, we were smashed by both Spurs and Arsenal by 4 goals and we got kicked out of the FA cup in the first round. And that is just the results - the football itself was even worse!

We were safe by Christmas and Sam got the rest of the season to see if he could be anything more than he had shown in any of his previous long career - he instead wanted to settle for draws against the mighty Swansea and Watford.
