The Plant pots as you call them (which i assume refers to me too) are just fellow Evertonians who dare to have a different opinion to yourself and others and they are posting their views and thoughts on an Everton themed forum which they are entitled to do and in most cases the plant pots as you call them dont resort to name calling of members who have a different opinion than them. Well i certainly dont resort to it anyway as i dont need to as it only serves to lower the value and credibility of the post.

The world would be a terribly boring place if everyone had the same opinion.

I agree 100% with what you are saying here that is what forums are for, but the other day one particular forum member was basically suggesting that anyone who was pro Silva was not a proper Evertonian which is a disgraceful comment to make imo.

What did you expect from this season mate? Honestly im not having a pop, im just asking what your honest expectations were?

I thought we would finish 7th or above, possibly get a little cup run.

Now of course the cup run never happened and I will personally be surprised if we finish 7th, so to be honest I consider the season a disappointment.

As for Silva, I still have doubts, but realistically we would only replace him with a Marco Silva, Ronald Koeman, sure the next fella might be better, he might be worse, but we would still need to "start again". This season hasnt been good, but I believe that if we get the recruitment right in the summer, we can do better next season. Yes, its based on blind faith, I just dont see what other options we have.

People keep assuming that the people that dont want him sacked are over the moon with being in a battle for 7th, I dont speak for them, but I assume they arent, im not, again, this season has been bad, really, really bad. Will next season be the same? Possibly, but lets just wait 12months.

I was similar in wanting a cup run and 7th place. I think the issue for me is how the season has gone with the positivity of the early few months having been drained away.

The recruitment is important. We all thought we'd cracked it this summer but as the season has dragged on plenty of them have struggled. A big thing is for those players we've brought in to actually improve. Fed up of players we've signed getting worse.

Let's just sack Silva and hire another Silva and then have this discussion a year later because we can't move this club forward because people want everything in one season.
The discussion wouldn`t even be in years time though would it ?

If we weren`t in the top six and still in all the cups by Christmas, the usual plant pots would be shouting the same stuff as they`re shouting now > insert different managers name.

Im quite amazed some posters would want us to play like Ajax last night overnight.

Ajax have been building for a number of years with mostly the same players coming through as a group and additions like Neres.

It takes time.

Maybe the member had been called a plant pot or similar and was paying back in kind. Not something i would agree with either way.

One thing that everyone has in common here is being Pro Evertonian (Well 99.9% of us anyway) and wanting us to get back to being a force to be reckoned with again. :)

You see I consider plant pot a key "insult", its just like calling somebody a divvy, if people are taking offence at being called a plant pot then I would suggest the internet isnt for them.

Insults to me are a lazy way to dismiss someone’s opinion without providing evidence to the contrary. I think it’s fair what @COYBL25 said about beating a dead horse, but insults do nothing and make the insulter look like a plant pot.

You are missing the point unfortunately. It doesn't matter what the insult is, all it ever does is show the member whom it is aimed at that you are struggling to defend your position and thus lowers the value of the content of the post and invites a reaction which often then turns into a never ending circle of pointless oneupmanship. This thread is a fine example of that.

But, getting back to Marco Silva, I would suggest that progress from our position over the last few years is incremental in nature. We can't expect to take last season's players and dramatically change performances so that we go from finishing 8th(somewhat surprisingly) to being in the top 4 in one season. Next year we should expect to be just inside the top 6 or hold at 7th. within 2 seasons of that we should look to break into the top four. With all that Champions League football brings we should look to be mounting a title challenge 2-3 years after that. Leicester was a freak lightening strike. The other years of the prem. era have shown a pattern of low incremental development.

People shouting for the manager to be sacked after 5 games are indeed plant pots I’m afraid.
I could say the same about the flip floppers, the apologists and the fence sitters. I could say the same about you when I dared criticize Pickford after the Brighton game. Also, we have played 34 games mate, so I hardly think people have not taken the entire season into consideration.

As for the Pickford thing- I get it. You were supporting our players. That isn’t a bad thing. It’s still very telling that people resort to insults when others disagree with them.
