Do you really think Mancini would go to a club with no european football? i don't tbh. Im not convinced myself by Silva btw, i just think that some of the players are so bad that it does'nt help but that he has'nt helped himself either at times.

Who knows but my point is until you try you never know.

Everton are like that good looking but shy lad at a bar lacking the confidence to actually go over and chat a decent looking bird up as they are too busy putting themself down to just give it a shot.

Mourinho talked up our spending power

Pellegrini said in his presser with the money being spent eventually we'll get to where that money should take us

Koeman and Alladyce were in the top 12 or so highest paid managers in world football under us

We have a 52k+ stadium on the horizon

We spend big money every transfer window/can offer players decent wages.

The only smallness about this club is the ambitions of those at the top and some fans.

But we can get Jose or Conte if we throw money at them according to some, so may aswell throw money at Pep instead

Going by your argument, we cant attract Neymar or Messi so may aswell never approach another striker and keep Tosun and DCL.

Thats how tedious the whole "who would you realistically have as manager" debate is as we dont know who we could attract and who we would actually go for.

Interesting article form Silva really. Some useful/interesting take outs as always with articles of such a nature. The first point is that he references McCarthy as important in keeping the Everton tradition alive. It's odd he hasn't been near the first team really.

It's clear that Moshiri sees Silva as a long term pick and Silva is trying to see things, as far as possible in a long term way. There is an acknowledgement that short term priorities exist but I sense some frustration on that front. There is also an acknowledgement from him that he hasn't stayed at a club long enough to build a dynasty and it was something he wanted. Thats a positive thing for me, that he is aware of that, wants to do that and that Moshiri is thinking in that way.

It would interest me if he attracted Koeman on that basis. Did he think he could be his long term man, or in all likelihood did he get wowed by a name?

He is right to reference the 5 players in the under 21's for England and there needs to be a bespoke plan for how we might utilise each of them. The ones who've stayed at the club have each, in their own way improved (with possibly Lookman being the most modest of progress). There are also lads like Baningime, Vlasic & Onyekuru who will come back and I'd like to see integrated.

Before that happens we also have the youngest squad in the league, and one where very few players have been here 3 years. Throwing more money at things each season is not the answer and he seems to grasp that. Next season Calvert Lewin, Pickford, Keane, Gana & Davies all go into their third season at the club. All would hope to be first teasers, that sort of regularity will help us. Again it's pleasing to here Silva talk in this way.

He talks about a lot of the little things he does, which I don't doubt, he is clearly a good coach on the training ground. What he will have to adapt to doing is getting teams over the line more, being cuter in games, having his side show more maturity etc. The improvements we've seen in performances haven't been seen in results. While I think he will get time if we can see general progress I don't think he will get away with being 11th much beyond Christmas of next year. I think people accept we may not be top 4, but people will want to see us towards 7th which is not a wholly unrealistic goal, having had a year with the squad.

Baines and Jagielka are special and we will decide soon, says Everton manager
• Veteran England defenders out of contract in June
• Club keen to make loans of Zouma and Gomes permanent

Leighton Baines (right) and Phil Jagielka have played a combined 600-plus league games for Everton but both are out of contract in the summer.

Marco Silva has said Everton will delay a decision on the futures of Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka until the summer when the club plans another overhaul that, it hopes, features the permanent signings of Kurt Zouma and André Gomes.

The Everton manager and the director of football, Marcel Brands, have told Zouma and Gomes, currently on season loan from Chelsea and Barcelona respectively, they want them to remain at Goodison Park long term. The pair alone could cost in the region of £70m.

Everton will also seek a work permit for the striker Henry Onyekuru, who was signed for £7m in 2017 but has spent the past two seasons on loan at Anderlecht and Galatasaray, and consider Nikola Vlasic part of their plans for next season. The Croatia forward is currently on loan at CSKA Moscow.

Both Baines and Jagielka are out of contract at the end of this season and have made only six and three Premier League appearances respectively under Silva. The long-serving defenders will have offers to move on, with the 34-year-old Baines expected to have interest from MLS, but the Everton manager believes both veterans remain valuable to the club without playing regularly.

Silva said: “Everything is open for the players who are out of contract but the players you are talking about are special players because of everything they did and everything that they can do in the future also. We will make a decision at the end of the season. The players will be the first to know.

“I keep speaking with them. I know these type of things are coming now. We are happy and they are really important players for us even if they are not playing as much as they played in the starting XI in the last seasons. They keep being important for us.”

The Everton manager admits preparations for the summer are under way but insists building on victory over Chelsea before the international break is the over-riding priority. Silva, who takes his team to West Ham on Saturday, added: “Of course we are doing our work and preparing and planning everything but the most important thing for me as a manager, and us as a club, is to prepare well the next game. And the game after. That is our way.

“What we will decide is not because of the last seven games, it is to do with all of the season. We have all season to picture and analyse and after we make decisions. But the important thing for us is West Ham and after that Arsenal and in the meantime we are doing our normal work behind the scenes.”

If Moshiri was looking long term, what was the point of sacking Koeman? Did he feel like burning 20 million in compo for two management teams?

Leipzig were not expected to qualify for the Champions League under Hasenhüttl, Bilbao were not expected to reach a Europa League final under Bielsa and Valencia were not expected to win 2 La Liga's under Benitez.
Bielsa whilst a good coach is eccentric and doesn’t fit the clubs long term goals his recent record isn’t great Leeds aside.
Benitez got turfed out of Inter and Madrid. Had decentish spell at Napoli and Chelsea but they are hardly small clubs. And with Newcastle got relegated, promoted with one of the most expensive championship sides ever and finished 10th in an absolute pish first division season last season. Hardly a glowing endorsement.

And that other guy ohhh champions league Silva has a better recent record with sporting, Olpmicoas and Estrieol

Imagine even thinking of giving Baines and Jagielka new contracts. 10 games between them this season and they’d be another year older? Both are injury plagued now, we’d be paying them not to play.

Get rid. Sentimentality is one of the big issues this club needs to sort out.

They're probably going. The club are probably just trying to be delicate about it given their histories at the club.

They're both on big wages and don't play. If they were going to be offered new deals then there'd be something being sorted out by now.

I took the part about McCarthy (and the others) passing on traditions to be a polite way of saying

Jagielka Baines McCarthy Coleman are all off.
