It wasnt.
Same every week....rinse & repeat.

It was half in jest, but tbh, our season is boiling down to trying to stop them win the league.
About 95% of goals are preventable, it all comes back to the training pitch though
I kind of meant the obsession with them was immense. Check out how many trophies they won between 1975-1984. It permeated into a lot of fans psyche. Not the late 70s.
Gordon’s team was well in the Title race in 77/78 and 78/79.....with two long unbeaten runs and playing great football with very fine players.
The early 80s was an awful time in the league, though![]()
Yeah, this seems to have been on the list of requirements and the reason for hiring Martinez, Koeman (who i assume is decent in spanish after 7 years at barca) and Silva. And it's a good reason to romanticize about getting Arteta in.
And yeah, I'm not aiming at this from the worst far-right angle here, I'm thinking man management. The manager has an obligation to stay in touch with the players and the fans, to speak their language and say the right thing. I hate to sound clichéd but i think Solskjær is a good example. He shows that a certain youthfulness, cultural understanding and actual ability to express yourself is good for the players too. Martinez was pretty good at that, except for the inability to say something negative when it had to be said.
Thing is, both Silva as well as Ronald and Sam were awful at "getting it", or showing that they got it, and they struggled at this whole feeling of being caged in, disconnected, not on the wavelength. They are speaking their own language instead of learning ours, i guess.
As an example, I'd urge you guys to have a look at Silva's last post-match comments. He's clearly uncomfortable with the loss and all, but his ability to express himself is simply not there. If he can't express him self on camera to the fans in the post-match, a crucial part of any managers' job, how does he do so in the dressing room?
To summarize: It's not necessarily a language thing. But a question of being able to express yourself - and to be accurate about it.
I think his point was about the coach needing to speak the English language well, Bernie....not actually being English.
And I think it is a fair enough point in principle.
I often think that a manager coaching a dressing room which has more tongues than the Tower of Babel must have the devil of a job getting his message across, particularly regarding the more complex plays.
Though it probably matters not that much in our case.....Bobby and Koeman spoke perfect English and the same problems pertained![]()
That's an interesting intelligent post. You've applied a theory that's common in general business, but hasn't been used much in the 'business' of football. I think you're right ats its certainly appearing to be a negative in connection with Silva. Emerys command of English isn't great, and the guy at Leeds isn't much but they seem to be able to get things across to players on the training ground(the Leeds guy more so)
True. The team are playing with two left FTSEsIt shows that I'm getting old and have the wrong job maybe, but at this point in life I'm reading football news more like i was reading the Financial Times. As far as Everton is concerned, cheering for our finances and business development has been a lot more fun than our football.
I don't think it can all come back to training though, I'm sorry.
We've seen the same mistakes over and over again under different managers.
I honestly reckon we're one of the best training teams in the league. We'll be ace. Pinging balls everywhere, scoring belters.
We just can't do it on the pitch.
No matter how much you work on something in training, out on the pitch in one individual moment, the player has to make the right call.
Training doesn't stop Keane making that foul. It doesn't stop Richarlison and Coleman losing their man. It doesn't stop Baines diving in. It doesn't stop Lookman losing possession.
This 100% for me. By extension that means that the players aren't good enough. Silva isn't doing himself any favors by going for the same stale tactics every single game but this season is highlighting to me that this group of players aren't ever going to amount to anything significant. They wanted free flowing fluid football after allardyce. Silva gave them the structure to do that, early season it worked out ok but now we look like the same disjointed unit we have looked like for ages. Same drab performances, second best to pretty average teams, no passion, no impetus or responsibility taken to put it right.I don't think it can all come back to training though, I'm sorry.

We can’t just blame the players all the time and pretend the manager has no faults. Silva has a history of conceding goals through setpieces.
Nicely summed up. We have mostly rubbish players I’m afraid. I feel for Marco having to manage these spineless biffs, but he’s not helping himself, he simply HAS to get them more organised, or this could get very ugly in the next few weeks.I don't think it can all come back to training though, I'm sorry.
