We'll see very few footballing autocrats, that's for sure. For this reason, I think Ferguson will come to be regarded as the greatest, for the unique way he imposed his will at almost every level of the club. Even when he wasn't making a decision, it was his men making the decisions. But he was an anomaly we just aren't going to see again, so we need to with it.

I admittedly know very little about Brands but, on the surface of it, himself and Silva look like it could be a good partnership. At the very least, it's nice to see some evidence of a direction and harmony at the club after the shitshows of the last few years
Jock Stein was better than Ferguson

For me it doesnt matter when the season starts, anybody we sign, we are signing hopefully to last us 3 or 4 years, rare cases like Jags maybe they will last us 11 years.

Now clearly I would have rather we signed them 2 months ago, but at this point it matters only that we get them in.

The Wolves defeat is set in stone at this point, forget that game, our focus should be the other 37 games in the league.
Not an unreasonable point but why go about things in this fashion? Now sometimes you can get away with it not having a big impact on your season. However when we are talking about the defensive side of the game and effectively a new back four then it’s poor not to get them in a good few weeks ahead of the season. In short this situation is adding unnecessary pressure onto Silva.

It wasn't Monchi's Sevilla, it was Emery's Sevilla.

Far too much importance being placed on chief scouts or DoF's or whatever you wanna call them. The man who picks the players and decides strategy pre/during/post-game is the main man. That was Emery, and for us it's Silva.
I’m a big fan of Emery’s and I’d agree with the sentiment but it still doesn’t change the fact that a top class DOF should be able to recruit 3 to 4 players for important First Team positions. There’s a few things to be critical of Silva for but not getting the players in well before the season starts isn’t one of them.

Interesting comments from Gylfi yesterday about the team now having a ‘hands on’ manager. Wonder if that was a reference to Big Sam’s apparent preference for his villa in Spain over Finch Farm.....

Sort the defence out and maybe we've got a manager.

Otherwise I can see is doing very poorly this season
This is the nub of it. We clearly needed 2 centre backs, a left back & a new defensive midfielder who can also distribute the ball well. If we don’t get that sorted we’ve got problems. Particularly when there is already a big question mark over Silva’s ability to organise a defence in this league.

We have signed a left back.

I can see us taking some more big defeats unless we acquire some cbs.

Absolutely, our current centre back pairings are horrendous. Hopefully we can get in two new ones and things will start to look up.
Frustratingly late in the window now mind. I can't imagine they will start vs Wolves if we do manage to sign someone, though they 100% need to be
