Yet nobody else can see it, apart from you.

Ever taken a moment to reflect on stuff you are saying and doing? Seriously Dave, it’s proper weird psycho stuff this.
That's not true though is it? Go and take a look at the Jagielka polls conducted.

No, everybody agrees Jagielka has gone past his best, as has Baines.

You take it to a different level though with your weird hatred and obsession.

One way to have stimulated and speeded up the defensive purchases would have been to transfer list Jagielka and Baines as soon as he arrived months ago. They are no great loss and usually are found to be at the heart of all our most obvious mistakes in conceding.

Not doing that and then compounding it by buying a winger for £40M has left us with another "preseason" in August/September.

Obviously Brands is culpable too. Silva in particular though needs to understand the brutal reality of life as a manager at Everton: lay down the law and get your own men in or be prepared to be undermined at a later date. The feller needs to toughen up and start demanding players be got shut of and those he wants brought in WHEN HE wants.
Ridiculous
Sell the defensive experience before we replace them !
Beyond your most ridiculous suggestions by some margin and by god youe made som whoppers

What did we all think of that first half against Valencia?
It had bite, a quick and high press when the ball was lost, 4-4-2 style medium block when Valencia played it out, pace down the flanks and 3 CM moving the ball quickly.
It all went to crap in the second half but for me, the first half were the shoots of our recovery.
Thoughts?

Defend better/cut out the mistakes and replicate that attacking intent over 90 minutes and we'll be sound. Fear neither will actually happen this season though.

Yeah- i've always been a huge fan of Jags but, along with Keane, he is sticking out like a sore thumb as our weak link.
Tell you what, if Schneiderlin and Gueye play like that for 90 mins, our CM is sound. Like you though, I think it's a very unlikely 'if'.

Besides the defence switching off in the 1st half it was a decent performance. The numerous subs in the 2nd half always stifle these games.

My only concern this season in playing the high line is we will leave ourselves exposed. With the pace we now have down the flanks we may need to set up a bit different especially away from home.

Think Saturday proved definitively that Gueye > Davies really.

Can't believe I'm about to say this.. but barring a ball-playing CM coming in before the window closes then Schneiderlin-Gueye is probably our best bet still.

Which is the chance you take we the high line / press. If your opponents beat the press, they are baying down on our CBs who then have to be able to defend one on one. Unfortunately, neither Jags nor Keane look able to do that at the moment.

Some of the best stuff I’ve seen us play since 13/14 in that first half and that’s not a joke. People are being far too negative on here. We have weaknesses at the back yes but one of those goals is stopped by a competent goal keeper and the other was a genuine mistake by Baines that I’ve not seen him make for a while. Add to that that Valencia are a top side with a top manager who would probably wipe the floor with any prem side outside the top 6 and it starts to look encouraging.

What was most impressive was that we have been dominated by continental teams repeatedly recently but for the first time in ages in that first half we saw an Everton team in control pressuring them into mistakes and then when in possession keeping up concerted pressure on their box. I’ve not seen that since 13/14, we’ve basically played a blend of counter attack or hoofball since then (which is what we reverted to in the second half).

If we play like that first half in the prem then no one from that bottom 13 is even touching us. Encouraging signs for Silva that i didn’t think I’d see after what happened at Rennes and Blackburn. I honestly thought we’d get canes by them as they’re a top side and Marcelino is a top manager.

Nope. What sacrifice would that have been - letting go two players in their 30s who are stinking the place out.

About the only good thing Koeman ever did was to punt Hibbert and Osman before the preseason even started when he first came in.

Silva is a new broom and should have swept clean of veterans with nothing to offer as soon as he walked through the door.

Think it's potentially significant that the best two sides on paper that we played in pre-season - Porto & Valencia - were when we looked especially good at times. Against Porto in particular I thought we kept the ball really well for the most part and were unlucky not to score.

Every other match saw us play out second string for large periods who struggled to cope. As you say, when the majority of the first team played, we've looked good offensively. Obviously the defence needs sorting still but M&M both seem to know that.
We're a work in progress, but there are positive signs.
Ultimately it's not the CL teams that we need to beat to match last season's efforts, it's the bottom half of the league.

He wasn't my first choice but I've always maintained he has the potential to become a very good manager. He needs the backing of the board to get 2-3 more signings over the line of he olis to succeed.

They have to come through the door and be adequate quality to properly judge Silva this season.
