Depends how you look at progression. Points in the bag or style. Style wise we have progressed but still short and points wise it could be said we have regressed. It is difficult to compare Silva with moyes as Moyes had 11 seasons to build a team. Moyes got us in the top 7 consistently but we progressed then that turned into contentment and a job to maintain that position rather than push on so progression was stifled purposely.

Martinez started well with an already decent top 7 team and our play was joyful but that collapsed with a quarter of the season left and he never recovered hence decline.

Koeman got us working hard and we still had Lukaku and basically took us back to a Moyes type side but he destroyed it all with bad purchases and we once again declined.

Allardyce came with his non progressive anti football that only belongs to teams that just need to survive to fight another day. Regardless of the points he got us it was not a progressive style.

Silva has just entered the fray and already we see progression with style but not so with points. Early doors yet but the style of play is a progressive type but hasn't got all the pieces yet in his one transfer window but has added quality we can see. His next few windows will be his true measure and then I feel we can qualify to judge fairly. We have to take into consideration the team he took over was an almighty mess which is a different scenario to Martinez and Koeman. Silvas purchases have been good so far and his attitude to football is to win. He is attempting that with varying success but you have to admit it is the way to go. He will have learned much about his new team thus far and with his 2nd transfer window coming up I feel he knows what he wants and will try to get what he wants but summer will be his true test.

In other words in my opinion we are on the right path but still have some way to go
When Moyes left we finished above Liverpoool. We also used to regularly finish above Spurs. Of course, we also used to regularly finish above City, but then they struck oil, so to speak. It is Spurs that is annoying, as they have not had overwhelming resources. The fact is, and this is not Silva’s fault, but the club regressed massively. One of the key things was Moyes had a very good eye for a player, which meant we outperformed a lot of big-spending teams on a smaller budget.

It remains to be seen whether Brands is the answer here, but I am disappointed that he does not seem to value the British market, and instead focuses on yet more foreign signings.

Lukaku was sold two summers ago and everyone knew that Koeman made a balls up of replacing him and Alardyce followed suit. The summer just gone was the moment to sort that out.

If it isn't sorted out in January that is a scandalous waste of a season.

Dave how many times must we go over this.

Sorting out the ageing, dreadful defence and a midfield play maker was the immediate priority to sort out in the Summer.

It`s called rebuilding in " stages ".

We simply did not have the money to go out and buy a 50 mil striker.

Silva gets top marks for style of football.

However the results have been poor. Drawing with watford and utter filth like Newcastle is bad, real bad. Losing to west ham was embarassing.

I’m prepared to give him time to plug the obvious gaps at centre forward, and right back.
Mike Walker!

It's not Rome that's getting built. They're just players to sell and buy.

I liked this leizpug manager, now at Southampton and about to end a top 6 team 21 unbeaten run in arsenal. In only his second game with a proper crap team.

I can only dream

He was on my wanted list with Darren Moore @Connor

Short memories.

Don't you remember any games from last season? Southampton. Arsenal (twice). United. Liverpool. Spurs. Atalanta. Lyon. Leicester.

All of those games significantly worse than anything we've seen this season. Some of the worst performances I've seen from an Everton team since the 90s in there.

So many of the victories last season came from worse performances than some of the draws and losses we've had this season. You can see it in the data as well as with your own eyes.

As for the players, there are two cases: changing personnel and improving incumbent players.

The personnel changes have been a resounding success; not one poor signing. In a typical starting XI this season, who has remained: Pickford, Keane, Coleman, Gana, Walcott. Keane vastly improved. Pickford still performing at a high level. The rest as last year, if not arguably a bit better. Coleman a special case.

The turnaround in atmosphere, performance, threat, and entertainment in just 16 matches is beyond what we would have expected at the start of the season. I'm not saying there are no negatives. There are. But the future of this team -- players and management -- is something to be very positive about at long last.
People have short memories and expect Silva to instantly transform a team that has been stagnant for a few years - at least in terms of attacking football.

While the past few games have shown that there is still a long way to go, we're at least facing in the right direction with regards to our ethos and our squad.

We're signing better players, fielding a stronger starting XI and benches, attempting more attractive and clinical, which is in part creating more chances.

I feel like I have to say this over and over but it's all about a balance: praise and support Silva for the clear improvements, yet not get carried away too quickly.

People have automatically expected us to be challenging the best teams and turn around our voodoo over playing them, and lambasting Silva because we haven't.

If we're still where we are in a year or two then perhaps we should be having a different discussion, however right now I think we just need to praise the positives.
