But what mistakes is Silva making?

Tell me?

Because as far as I can tell he isn't making many. We've looked by and large, solid, until the last few games. We're creating chances.

So his system is working. We don't pass for passings sake. We're the best team at winning the ball back in the final third in the league - Christ, look how many times we did it yesterday!
City were troubled by us yesterday, make no mistake about that. We can create, we just cant convert.

If Brands doesn't sort a very decent striker out in January then I have my answer on him.

I agree its daft wanting Silva out now... however I am not seeing any progress tbh.

0 wins against sides in the top 6

1 win against sides in the top 10

Dropped points at

West Ham
Newcastle
Huddersfield
Wolves
Bournemouth
Watford

Yes we are creating more chances and pressing more... however its not really that difficult to improve on last seasons shocking performances is it?

As I've said since Newcastle if people compared our performances to those under Moyes, Martinez's first season or even Koemans and we have not improved at all/in some instances have declined.

You have got to give him the full season and Moshiri needs to back him in January to bring in atleast 2 signings however lets not pretend he's managing a side of pub footballers.

Pickford, Keane, Zouma, Digne, Mina, Gana, Gomes, Gylfi, Richarlison, Walcott would all get in any side outside the top 6.

Depends how you look at progression. Points in the bag or style. Style wise we have progressed but still short and points wise it could be said we have regressed. It is difficult to compare Silva with moyes as Moyes had 11 seasons to build a team. Moyes got us in the top 7 consistently but we progressed then that turned into contentment and a job to maintain that position rather than push on so progression was stifled purposely.

Martinez started well with an already decent top 7 team and our play was joyful but that collapsed with a quarter of the season left and he never recovered hence decline.

Koeman got us working hard and we still had Lukaku and basically took us back to a Moyes type side but he destroyed it all with bad purchases and we once again declined.

Allardyce came with his non progressive anti football that only belongs to teams that just need to survive to fight another day. Regardless of the points he got us it was not a progressive style.

Silva has just entered the fray and already we see progression with style but not so with points. Early doors yet but the style of play is a progressive type but hasn't got all the pieces yet in his one transfer window but has added quality we can see. His next few windows will be his true measure and then I feel we can qualify to judge fairly. We have to take into consideration the team he took over was an almighty mess which is a different scenario to Martinez and Koeman. Silvas purchases have been good so far and his attitude to football is to win. He is attempting that with varying success but you have to admit it is the way to go. He will have learned much about his new team thus far and with his 2nd transfer window coming up I feel he knows what he wants and will try to get what he wants but summer will be his true test.

In other words in my opinion we are on the right path but still have some way to go

A managers job is to build a side that can create chances in matches, the fact that the players fluffed them is not his fault
You could say a managers job is to stop conceding goals in matches, the fact that the players fluffed it is not his fault.

The buck stops with the manager. That’s not a criticism, that’s just how it is.

We have an idiot in goal. It's a bit hard to legislate for his amount of errors.

Silva is fine. He's just been let down by the lack of striker quality he's been handed.

I’d say Mina adapting to the Prem is costing us more goals than Pickford at the moment, and while they can both improve and I wouldn’t say either are idiots!

Agree on the striker though and it needs to be rectified as a priority in Jan if possible and if not 100% in the summer. I like DCL as a young player but we are back in the same position as last season of having him as our first choice CF (actual CF, excluding playing a winger there) which just isn’t right.

I have got to agree with you about Pickford maybe he has started to believe his own hype and needs to get back to basics.
At the moment he reminds me of an early Howard , a good shot stopper but lacking elsewhere.

C'mon Dave you know very well that January isn't the best time to be recruiting quality Strikers. Why not make that judgement at the end of the summer window.

Yes and to be fair brands has done well so far but a striker/centre forward is the elephant in the room. Silva has rightly tried all his options and now he must know that he doesn’t have what he needs. We’re better than last year and should improve with games but without a front man this squad can only go so far.

Bring whoever you want in, i don't think it will make that much difference, the whole of our front 4 can't finish properly when in front of goal. Bringing in a striker is not going to solve that imo.

We've played Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd away (which in itself is outrageous) and come away with just one point. Never expected to beat any of them this season but our performances against each have been filled with incredible promise. Something to build on for sure.

The only games I'm truly peeved with this year was the home thrashing to West Ham and the cup exit.

But surely if the front 4 as you say aren't scoring then bringing in a striker will change that as we would be looking to bring in someone who is better than what we have.

Its really only Bernard and Walcott who haven't contributed to the goals. Richarlison and Gylfi should both be in for double figures (I'm not saying that's enough btw)

Mina looks dodgy. However, if I was a CB of any description I'd expect a GK to command his own 6 yard box. If they stayed rooted to the line like that feller does I'd be giving him a lot of stick.

Not to many times the likes of them will get 4 wins in a row, infact think it was radio said it was 1st time in 5 years today, and to go with wolves winning 3 in a row who play Liverpool friday night as well, even bournemouth despite 6 from 7 loses are still only 1 point behind us,all so close from 6th to 13th-only 5 points [if man utd lose/brighton lose tomorrow]-we just need a couple of wins in a row if we can and not say have 1 win, then a lost then a draw for example

-can defo see a few changes the next 4 league games as we play those 4 games quicker than any other prem team

The thing is, all our away games have been tough, especially recently. They've all been against the top 6 bar spurs and then the 3 next best teams this season in wolves, Bournemouth and Leicester. So this has stopped us being able to put a run of wins together. Our second half of the season is going to be a lot easier on paper with the team more gelled. We've been better away this season so I can see us stringing a good run together which will see us pull away from all those teams.

Did you give him stick for the first goal when he did the opposite of stay rooted to the line?
