I like Silva and the fact he rotated the players shows he has the ability to make decisions but I feel he should have made subs earlier. I would have taken Tosun off after about 55 as it clearly wasn't going to be his night. Either DCL like for like or Walcott and switch Lookman over and Richarlison up front.

I can see why he rested Keane as it was a game where we weren't expecting too much threat so was an opportunity for Mina and Zouma to get some time together. Unfortunately we conceded but at least they know a bit about each other if they have to play together if Keane picks up a knock.

I haven't confidence for any away game because we are one of the least clinical sides in the league and have struggled for years to turn the draws into wins. I saw shouts of 5 nil last night which was mental when we knew Rafael would come to sit in. People are getting way ahead of themselves. We don't score anywhere near enough goals to sustain a top 6 push.

We don't score enough to sustain a top 6 push, despite the fact we went I to last night's game 7th highest scorers? And having played the rs, united, arsenal and Chelsea all away from home?

Right now there is 2 teams comfortably ahead of the rest. Then another 3 roughly around the same level, united aren't one of them, 6th is and should be the goal set for this season

I was happy with Marco changing the lineup because it was pretty much like for like however from minute 1 you knew Newcastle would sit and sit then try and nick a goal.

We constantly play 2 defensive midfielders against these teams and time and time again we are held to a draw (i.e Huddersfield) or we have to fight for a easy win (i.e Southampton).

How about we start more positive then try and shut out the game? 3-5-2 Or 3-4-3 plus it gives us a chance to play 3 centre backs to help gel incase we need to be more more defensive later in the season.

Marco's subs just didn't chance the game because it's was the same system. He really needs to get a Plan B because the formation was the problem.

Finally CORNERS, I know we scored from one but that was scrappy but really poor all day and we swapped takers. We have real threats in Zouma and Mina but wasted everyone.

On what planet is Gomes a defensive midfielder? He just isn't, which kind of undermines the whole point you're trying to make.

Exactly. You need a forward to take them out of their shape. Score first and we probably win the game. The general tactic is to go wide but that has to be in conjunction with pulling them out their shape. They didn’t budge, as no one was asking that question.

Exactly. After City and Spurs we'll be lucky to be 7th never mind 6th.

But those teams immediately below us will have tough games against the top five too.

I know United travel to the Pit on Sunday week.

Bournemouth face the RS this Saturday......Leicester entertain Spurs.

et cetera, et cetera.

I am still saying we will be 6th come New Year’s Day :)

No one of sane mind could've watched that game and though they were better. Come on.
I never said they were better I'm saying Silva needed to tweak the tactics, he new benitez would sit back, try and nick a goal and play on the counter.

Benitez got what he came for

This is basically it. There is not enough fluency and we will not win enough winnable games as a result. However we are building a very solid base at the back and this back 4 can grow together over a 3-4 year period before most of them reach their best (I include Pickford in that too).

Thats a good place to start from. To a certain degree the attacking side will get better as they play together but do think we need more goals in it. You can get away with Walcott/Bernard but only if you have a guy scoring lots.

The positive has to be, look at how over the shop we were even in pre-season. Look at the performance even against West Ham. I really can't see many more of those type of performances anymore.

Dont forget its silva press conference for mondays game at 3pm today, that caught me out a little as didnt expect it till tomorrow with been the monday night game

In the system we play you either need all four forward players chipping in with around 10+ minimum, or three of them to cover for the fourth - assistant ingredients like say Bernard they provide something that makes the system work better, if you have two of them like we do who aren't chipping in, then only way that works if you've got someone netting 25 a season like spurs have.

Yes I agree with that, and in truth we don't have the 25 goal a season player or Walcott in any kind of form currently. That is costing us.

We've had a pop gun attack since Koeman's second summer here, and that was carried on by Allardyce paying an arm and a leg for a jack of all trades, master of none in the shape of Tosun.

I have a feeling Bernard would be a lot more productive if he had a forward playing centrally who knew how to find space. Walcott is a dead loss who wouldn't be able to service Ian Rush in his prime. And though he has a few tricks, I just cant see Lookman as a starter and someone who becomes top class...which is why we should have taken what Leipzig were offering in the summer.

We have completely wasted Richarlison over the last two months.
