No blame can be given to Silva.

He is going to need time to sort out the utter shambles of poor recruitment stretching back to the recruitment of Alcaraz and Kone.
We have managed to acquire a squad of overpaid, over-the-hill, one paced garbage.
They will be almost impossible to shift too.

Very similar to the situation Moyes found himself in when he took over.

There is a smattering of quality but not enough to build a coherent team yet.

i really hope he's not as spineless as the last 3 managers

it's been said he's been using these friendlies as a opportunity to assess the players, well realistically only a handful of players have stood out, he should be on the blower to marcel this morning and tell him he needs a whole new defence and CM

absolutely no excuses
Coleman and Baines are the only two who came out with any credit yesterday. It's the CB we need

Yep this poor squad recruitment has been going on since Moyes left. For all his faults he built about 3 decent teams in his time and every manager since has just done a mishmash of squad recruitment woth very little thought to balance, chemistry, partnerships

2 weeks before a season starts and we need at least 3 new defenders and probably the same for quality midfielders

We have the players it is just that they are not good enough but we are saddled with them and no way of getting rid.

I hope that will have given Silva something to think about last night and his phone is red hot and he is stalking Brands to get him players in.

When you think of that Moyes team with the likes of peak Jags, Baines, Lescott, Coleman, Osman, Pienaar, Arteta,Cahill, Yak.. Such a shame we didn’t win anything, as that was a cracking side. Streets ahead of anything we have now.

I don' believe that we will be as bad as some believe.
I think there is little doubt that we will bring in at least two or three more players. A left back(not critical), a centre back and a dominant central midfielder could give us a decent team.
Pickford.
Digne
Minna
Keane
Coleman

Zakaria
Gueye
Sigurdsson

Walcott
Tosun
Richarlison.

We have already signed Richarlison, are heavily linked with Digne and Minna and and I have seen us linked with Zakaria , the kind of midfielder we need to add some power and drive to the most static area of our team.
I think that team looks decent.

Yep, absolutely miles ahead of anything we've had since and the reason being we had partnerships all over the gaff

Jags and Lescott
Jags and Distin
Baines and Pienaar
Arteta and Cahill
Cahill and everyone

Everyone slags off the likes of Osman but hes still streets ahead of most we've had since, scored great goals, got stuck in, would play anywhere

All of the above had that chemistry you need, fighting for each other, balance all over the pitch.

I honestly think Silva will sort this side out, its just going to take a while but the board really need to back him and get the players in he wants sharpish and punt the ones out asap even if on loan

The biggest problem was that Man united and Chelsea also had their greatest teams of this modern era. They even met each other in the CL final when we had this squad. Any other time we probably would have had something to show. Even making the FA Final we had to have 3 certain starters out with serious injury :(
2 of them our best players too!

If Lookman is to go it should be on the basis of adding Lozano.

Lozano, Richarlison and Walcott/Tosun transforms the attack.

I actually feel sorry for him, he’ll have spent weeks trying to teach this lot some of the basics of football only to see them go out and turn in the same performance they’ve been giving since 14/15. He has a huge job trying to get a tune out of these spineless biffs.

It's almost like they're too daft/rubbish to get what he's trying to teach them.

Only Richarlison gets it, from last time with Silva and a background of Brasilian football.

I think Baines gets it though, reminded me a bit of the Pienarr days so far.
