So you think teams don’t really bother trying to score because they assume they’ll get a set piece and score from it at some point, and we definitely won’t score in reply? Think I’ll just add it to the list of utter tosh you’ve posted recently, if I can find space.

No what I’m saying is at Goodison epsecailly they can play tight at the back and know they have a decent chance of scoring from set pieces during the game. When we score first teams tend to come out of their shell and can score relatively easily against us. We are a soft touch at the back and if you say otherwise then that is tosh imo.

It baffles me how people expect a manager to come in and immediately and effortlessly transform a long term mid table side into a top six side within a season.
It is ,for me ,an utterly unreal expectation.
I am not aware of any extant manager who would be capable of such a feat. Certainly none of the alternative names posited in various angst ridden threads suggest to me they would meet that level of expectation.
It takes more than a season to create a functioning team from the disparate recruitment of 4 previous regimes.
Patience is required, if we are not willing to grant at least a modicum of it then any person we may or may not appoint in the future will be similarly doomed to ignominious failure to our lasting detriment.

I think people expect to close the gap not spend 200 mil and widen it with the likes of wolves (this season) and burnley (last season) being better than us

Building a team is not merely spending money on players, but having the time to blend those players into a functioning team. Frustratingly this always takes time it isn’t achieved overnight nor indeed within 1 season.
Esperito is in his second season at Wolves and has been well backed.
Whoever is in charge of our team will face the same problems. We have been a dysfunctional unit since the failure of Martinez who effectively bequeathed us a side containing remnants of Moyes more defensive side and his own more possession inclined players. Koeman and Walsh attempting to correct the inherent imbalance in the side seemingly conspired to make it worse.
It is now the lack of continuity which is threatening our future hopes.
We need to give this manager time and support to address these issues and to attempt, with Brands assistance, to create a cohesive team.

No chance a manager who doesn’t learn from his mistakes and keeps making them is not my manager.

Also ranieri at Leicester. It can happen.

I believe the mistakes at the moment are mostly down to the players failings rather than Silva. Of course it is his ultimate responsibility to correct it , but time is required to allow him to repair the problems.
I believe we currently have the worst set of centre backs I have ever seen at the club, although I haven’t seen enough of Mina to be fair.
Ranieri’s success ,whilst impressive ,owed as much to fortune as skill. He essentially inherited a side assembled by a less storied manager primarily to stave off relegation. His appointment gave them the experience needed to take advantage of the failings of the traditional top clubs that season and Spurs lacked experience themselves and bottled it. Respect is due to them though.
It was comparable to the season Moyes guided us,by the skin of our teeth, to 4th.
In both cases the success was flimsy and proved unsustainable. We were bundled out of the Champions League at the first hurdle and finished 11th.
Leicester similarly were unable to repeat their performance and Ranieri was ignominiously dismissed.
For both clubs success proved ephemeral and fleeting and was not evidence of enduring improvement.
It is sustainable and prolonged success I crave for our club, and I am willing to be patient a while longer in the hope we can achieve it.

TBF though, we seem to have this obsession with 'closing the gap' - I don't just mean the fans, I mean the whole club, Moshir et al, when actually we're not even the best side out of the top six.

Where do you draw the line on this then? Let say, quite reasonably, we get beat by Cardiff and the RS. Do we still keep hold of him? How long can he keep making excuses. I do agree that we shouldnt be sacking managers every season but we should just keep one employed on that basis if hes just not good enough. I think he's way out of his depth.

Yes, fair enough, but people are questioning if he’s actually capable of doing that, or if he’s a fraud. I’ve no idea which it is tbh.

people saying he's walked into a mess. he walked into a team that finished 8th and then added a few decent players. we should at least maintain the same position. I know we are close to it and I hate to be negative but we are going to end up in the bottom half. even if we where decent these fixtures coming would be too much.

I agree with this but I don't think Silva deserves the continuity, He was a gamble and it's backfired.
