In the summer I "demanded" we sign 5 players.

A GK able to put pressure on Pickford
A RB able to put pressure on Coleman
A CM to replace Gana
A wingforward able to replace Walcott in the side
And a CB

We got them all but the CB, the CB was only needed in case of injury to Mina or Keane, which hasnt happened yet.

The squad building by Brands was always going to take time, we started the window with 43 first team players, 20 odd of those players have been moved on, most of which we are still paying millions a year to, I mean we are paying around 100k a week to Martina and Niasse to eat crumpets at FF.

So yeah, the squad, IMO, probably isnt good enough for top 6, just yet, but to sit 18th, after the run of games we had and people feel the need to blame Brands, Moshiri? Nar mate.
Seems like you have Brands syndrome.

The inability to see that from the minute Lukaku signed elsewhere are most pressing need was to spend big on a top class centre forward.

Its not difficult. I think if you asked a class of 30 7 year-old everton fans they would all come to the same conclusion.

Bizarrely Brands and some evertonians disagree.

Ohh please. Forget that, our DOF should have been spending 50 hours a week, every week through apr/may/june trying to find someone to push Coleman for the right back slot.

They should have signed a replacement for Lukaku BEFORE he was officially sold. That’s what professional well ran clubs do. Before the fees are cranked up.

Lukaku should have honoured his contract and not talked himself up for other clubs every time he went on internationals and not act like a party boy with Pogba to get his move instead of returning to the club on time

But it's a question of resources and how you allocate them, versus what's actually available.

Would you still want to replace Lukaku with a forward of comparative value if it meant you had to go without in other areas of the pitch? Or continue to invest throughout the squad and accept that the striker you're getting isn't a good fit or a long term solution?

I believe in Brands long term approach, I do find the lack of goals worrying. The 2 aren't mutually exclusive. I have no idea how hard it is to get a football transfer over the line, and I expect it's more complicated than Football Manager would have me believe.

I hope some sort of religious guru doesnt get hold of you - you would be in in seconds.

No centre forward (just a very young kid), no new centre half, dubious replacements for our best player in centre mid.

What has the guy been doing? In all seriousness what would he have to do to warrant any criticism. My eyebrows were raised with all that twaddle of giving Kean's mum a shirt and posting it all over the media.

Style over substance written all over him.

The guy appears to be Teflon in the eyes of most. I guess that’s partly cos of more pliable targets at the club for our current predicament, and the dismal overall record of the guy he replaced as Steve Walsh seems to most of us I think a dreadful error in appointment benefitting from hindsight.

I’m neither overly suckered in by his slick manner or Dutch league reputation to join the odd Brands über-fanboys; nor do I think he’s clearly shaping up to be a polished-looking lemon, 2 more windows I think to judge a more reasonable period of his tenure and collection of buys/sales.

What I do wish however is that he’d p*ss off into the shadows which is what/where I imagine these DoFs to best operate- I don’t want some cult being built around him as appears to be the case and he shouldn’t be overshadowing the ‘footballing front man’ that should be the manager/first team coach. He gets ample remuneration I’m sure without him and the club in fairness seeming intent to push him into some sort of club celeb limelight. Our fans aren’t thick, good players over the line at good value plus shifting out the surplus to requirements is what we want and he’d get a fair nod for that if he delivers.

Upcoming 12 months (2x windows) will tell us much, although the upheaval of another possible managerial change would cloud matters I guess.

Should have stayed with us but no he wanted big name club, bright lights and Europe but where is he now???????
