Well I''m not a season ticket holder, but if I were Il;d understand perfectly the point being made by those who weren't that info had been denied me.

Look, I just want to know word for word what Brands said. Is that a crime? Do I have to rely on others on a forum to get bits and pieces? Should this really be the way the club runs it's communcations?

There’s a seven minute version on YouTube.

Interesting to hear about the way they went about getting Delph showing him videos of where he;d fit in and what he could do for us.

It;s nice to know that (thank God for youtube).

Unfortunately though it's just a taster for the paid membeship video where the substance is.

I can't afford it.:(

That's what @Deco s transcript said. And some of us are relying on others like him for the full interview because we cant get access to the OS for it...which is a bit 'kin snide BTW.

Maybe they just want to communicate with the smitten?
Well even what @Deco wrote doesn't suggest it was Zouma or no one for that position. From the actual quotes, which I'll transcibe below, he says we wanted a centre half, primarily Zouma, everyone else we wanted wasn't as a good so why spend money for the sake of it. You know, smart decisions.

Brands actual quotes on CB:

Inerviewer: Asking about a clear and detailed plan of what he wants to achieve in the market.

MB: "We were pretty close to what we [wanted to] achieve the only thing we didn't achieve was, one of our goals, was the central defender and especially Kurt Zouma. Yeh because of the ban at Chelsea that was a difficult one but okay, from the other side we know we take a decision not to renew Jagielka for example to give Mason Holgate a little bit more perspective for his future because he's a very talented player. We also have a very young boy, Lewis Gibson, that had a very good pre-season and of course he has to step up more than he did already - it's a player with a future in Everton. I think that's also important to give some perspective to the academy.

Interviewer: "It seemed very significant that when you were looking for another centre back you didn't just panic and bring somebody in for the sake of it and there seems to be a real responsibility to make sure you're spending the clubs wisely and only bringing in players who are going to improve the squad."

MB: "Yeh definitely because, uhm, I think that's a very important thing that if we spend money we have to do it the right way. I think if you go lower than a level than you want then I think it's better to do nothing and to uhm look at your own academy and I think that's more important also too. We have some young boys that are knocking on the door of the first team squad and okay they are still a long way to go but you have to give them also an idea that okay there is something possible here."

My original post said the below, which is pretty much exactly what Brands said at the time (not word for word but I typed while listening on the beach :D. He didn’t say, and I didn’t post that he said, that Zouma was our only target.

My view on it is that we did relied too much on getting Zouma. The fact that we didn’t get anyone is poor and everyone would agree Brands made a mistake there.

Whether that’s true I don’t think we’ll know for a while - not a single person on this forum or in the media mentioned us going for Kean on loan in January at the time so it’s probably unfair to say Brands only went for Zouma based on what’s been reported.

He’s been up front in saying it was a goal and he didn’t deliver. At least he gave reasons why.. not wanting to spend big money, which is pretty much every signing in the PL these days as no club wants less than £15-20m for anyone, on the wrong player when we have the opportunity to develop the youngsters available).

The reality is that no team apart from City would’ve done all of the business they wanted to do. I’m just happy that since Brands has come in we’ve made clear strides to a balanced, long term, exciting squad within one year of him being brought in.

I’m sure that over the years @davek has complained about the lack of communication from the club on both on and off the pitch matters. Surely everyone is enjoying having Brands discuss the detail publicly compared to the deadly silence of previous years?

On CB: Really wanted a CB and in particular Zouma but it didn’t happen because of Chelsea’s ban.

But that is still exploitation.

I disagree. The club have made a lot of great content free to view for fans.

£30 a year is substantial but if they keep serving up the extended content it’s worth the money in my eyes and gives me an opportunity to support the club.

The only thing I didn’t like was how they kept the part of interview where Marcel discusses the CB situation for members only. As the biggest concern our fans had about the window, it should’ve been on the free video.

Incrementally we will improve if we keep Mr Brands captaining the ship. Patience is a virtue in this game but in five years I believe Everton will have a new identity. We will be mixing it with the top six for sure and stronger as a business.

Well said sir. Just one thing. The changing identity thing has me concerned.

Progress yes. Having a house full of blues with unrestricted views is progress, being financially secure is progress, challenging for top spot is progress, unshackling the chains of the 4231 is progress.

But changing identity. I'm sure every blue would agree that the biggest achievement this club could make in the future is to be winning titles without losing its heart and soul. To be successful while not being assimilated by the powerful forces of commercialisation and commodification.
Everton needs to walk as a centrifugal force opposing these forces.
How that is navigated is at the heart of everything.

To get back on topic, Brands for his own part seems to be navigating this difficult path pretty well so far.

Gibson is nowhere near forst team level mate. The manager knows that too.

Brands dragging Gibson into the fray was not impressive, tbh. And it's placed pressure on the lad if he ever does get a fist team chance too.
Wrap em in cotton wool and keep em in the closet aye.

We don't need to win the title this season.
So putting pressure on a lad by giving him an opportunity and see how he gets on is not a bad thing.
Generally the experience will put them in good stead.
Hopefully he gets a chance this season.
We're lucky we've got someone who is prepared to mix it up and take a chance with things rather than being forced into stupid decisions.

First of all, it wasn't my intent to suggest you gave an incomplete version of the interview. In fact, I commend you for trying to keep me and others in the picture.

Second: I disagree on Zouma. I think it;s clear that there was only one game in town in terms of CBs, and the option to it was promote from within.

Third: the OS has got this all wrong with the Brands interview. There's no way that should have been exclusive to fee paying members. It's not about communication as such, it;s the ACCESS to that info.

I'm not against promoting youth. I am though guided by the manager who doesn't see it happening for him right now.

Which is why we need a Dutch fella there to nudge him along, cause I can't see Silva willingly bringing through the youth.

Is that what the club are about now? Selling info on the day to day running of the club and decisions made?

Shameful if so.

Dave,I think you're beginning to sound like a prim old Victorian auntie with your use of the words 'shameful' and 'disgrace'. I don't think there can ever be an argument against the club taking commercial opportunities when they arise. On of the main complaints on here has always been the lack of commercial instinct at the club. I for one am glad that this is beginning to change. what I want next is for Everton TV to be on the Sky EPG,as was muted when Wyness was here, but the club I think was afraid to take the step. Somebody should tell Mosh that we will be a 'bigger' club if we have our own channel actually on the telly....and that you can charge punters £6.99 a month, like other 'big' clubs. That's what I call having a commercial instinct.

But that is still exploitation.
Wouldn't call it exploitation. But think your point is valid.
There needs to be a lot more mature discourse on the commercialisation and commodification of Everton.
The line crossed over from supporter to consumer is faint and largely unrecognisable these days and the shift happens unknowingly.
Whether its access to information, plastic blue flags or a myriad of other issues that all stem from the same thing,
supporters should think carefully about what's going on before its all lost.

Hats off to Marcel...now Mina is fit and adapted + Gbamin and Kean slowly adapting hes not far off a clean sweep of quality.

It's information at the end of the day. Denied some. You can see how such targeting can backfire.

I can handle the commercialisation of the game. But firewalling info like some money-grubbing newspaper is not on.

Communications dont work when you stop communicating with only a few.

What we REALLY need to do is get Amazon as our kit sponsor and link in some sort of paid service through them. I'm not aware of how big they are over in Europe but in the US they're an absolute juggernaut.
