I think a false 9 would be like Messi under Guardiola at the start or Totti under Spalletti. They are nominally the furthest forward attacker but drop deep leaving space that the support in attack can use. Works best with players that can then link the play and find their team mates in that space.

A traditional number 10 would be nomally the furthest up midfielder who would have the forward(s) in front of them.
Somebody else might explain more. Im too lazy
