Agree.

Dermot Gallagher was on later for his weekly spot. He argued that he thought it was a pen, but both guests thought Gana got the ball so it wasn't a foul. But neither of them mentioned Martial's theatrical "fall". I mean, I don't even know if that rule still exists, I haven't heard of anybody receiving bans since Niasse, but I've seen loads of dives that have been missed by the ref.

At least Dermot agreed that Smalling should have received a second yellow for the Everton penalty.

I think a West Ham player was done a week or two later, Barney.

But it seems to hsve been quietly ditched ever since then.

Yeah Niasse got it first which I still think was questionable and then Lanzini got it for a very obvious dive. I think those are the only two. It's sad because teams like Spurs and the RS have made an art out of diving as a result of the lack of punishment and they put this in and won't use it on those teams.

I don't think you can be given a yellow card when committing a foul for a penalty anymore can you?

Something about 'double punishment'

Sadly, but predictably, we are just a byline in today's newspapers.

It's all about United's return to form.

We went into this game on the back of 3 wins, but could not maintain the momentum.

This is Everton, 2 steps forward, one step back.

Will it ever change?

Think that relates to straight red cards mate. The old rules say that if you deny a goal scoring opportunity inside the box, accidentally or not, then it was a red card, suspension and a penalty. Now if the defender makes a genuine attempt to play the ball then he'll only get a yellow card.

Now I'm not sure whether yesterdays was a goal scoring opportunity or not (it probably was actually). But it was a wild tackle by Smalling who got nowhere near the ball. It was a yellow card offence in anyone's book, even Dermott Gallagher who doesn't often go against the referees original decision. The double punishment ruling doesn't really come into play.

Interesting stat on sky commentary in that Utd haven’t lost at OT since Ipswich beat them in 1984 when leading at half time.
We were doomed :(

I think you'll find Everton haven't won many games when losing at half time too.

Maybe once or twice in the previous 20 years or something.

So it was double doomed.

Err we had same amount of attempts and 46 percent possession. Missed a couple of sitters had a pen awarded against us that was not and their best player was arguably fat moss. What do you expect a 4-0 win at old trafford?
Was a great performance easily deserved at the least a point. On to the next game

Completely missed the point

the only solace from the loss i can take is i hope the thai cave boys had a great day out. Sometimes there's more to life than a football game and here's hoping it was one of the best experiences of their life.

They’ve been all over social media nailing the ref, slamming Martial and singing “He’s electric....”
