You may or may not be wondering about the confusion at the Etihad with Riyad Mahrez ruled offside, then VAR checking for a penalty and why the play was started again from the off-side position.

Just had a quick chat with the Premier League about guidance on the Mahrez offside/ penalty decision. I will bullet point it the best I can:

1) On field decision was offside.

2) Because there was a possible penalty VAR had to check this.

3) VAR then checked offside and deemed Riyad Mahrez onside.

4) It then checked the penalty, and deemed Riyad Mahrez had handballed it.

5) As VAR can’t check every offside decision (only does so for penalty and goals) play resumes from the original on-field decision.

What a mess.

I know its City and not Newcastle/Burnley but how can anyone think that 45 mins is acceptable. Sloppy passes, weak in the challenge, turning back constantly and just playing hopeless long balls up to nobody.
