Not particularly. No one is saying that Lescott is worth 22 million. I said at the time we were paying a good 5-10 million over the asking price.
What did he do so well for you that he isn't for us? I'm not being sarcastic I genuinely want to know why he was such a good player for you.
His position sense, marking, and the way he and Jags worked was a great partnership...the way like Terry and Carvalho, Ferdinand and Vidic work well - they just read each other and covered each other.
He ended up being surprisingly efficient at left back in the 1st season because he was like a freight-train bombing down the wing when he could. He was a rock solid defender at left back and usually popped up with a few goals hitting the far post. He's not a proper wing back though, but a very good left back - which are different.
He's also got a top draw heading ability, scored a fair few goals too when he got the space Cahill didnt fill on corners.
Also,
Moyes had a lot to say about. He built a rock solid back four with him in, kept a [Poor language removed] load of clean sheets (think a club record at one point, but some record got broken).
Lescott's gone over to Citeh under Hughes who seemed to think about defense last and it doesnt look like him and Toure work well. Mancini's come in, sorted that out and the team is less gung-ho and conceading less...and while Lescott's been out.
But funny enough he's been getting injuries. He never missed a game in 2 seasons for us....bit strange.
