Jagielka, Baines, Lescott & Cahill all looked half decent players but at Everton they were awesome and Baines looks like he is getting better and better and is truly up there with the worlds best full backs.

Van der Meyde is the big one in terms of disappointment.

Pienaar surprised me because I hadnt heard of him and because after his first few games I wasnt convinced. Turned out a belter.
Always thought Lescott and Baines would be excellent signings.

I guess it's surprised me how a modern day so called money grabbing footballer has really learned his lesson about going elsewhere and been pretty frank & honest about his mistakes.

If he got a call from a semi-decent side in Spain, or from Ajax, he'd be kicking off again in no time.

Baines, Jagielka, Lescott, Cahill, Arteta, Pienaar MKI, Howard, Gibson, Jelavic and Donovan's loans were all inspired signings considering the impact on our team finishing high up the league for ridiculously low prices, each one of them was bought for £6m or less and they all had the kind of impact that you'd get from a £10m+ signing at least. The likes of Heitinga, Fellaini and Distin were great acquisitions and remain important members of our squad, but they were recognised by many as quality players already and were brought to the club for £7m, £15m and £5m(for a 31 yo at the time) respectively.

Worst were Kroldrup and Bilyaletdinov. No need to explain gashness.

From what I heard Kroldrup struggled to fit in with the lads and then got horribly homesick because his wife was still in Italy.

This is the most surprising signing for me - not cos I knew anything about kroldrup, but because we all know Moyes knows what a prem centre half looks like. We also know Moyes as a fairly cautious sort who's not prone to shoveling a few million on a player he's not had a good look at. So God knows how we ended up with Per Kroldup on the books - I mean homesick or not a centrehalf who is not competent to start a match is a total mystery.

David Moyes has been at Everton for 10 years, and in that time he has bought a lot of players, I don't know how many for certain, but a lot. Out of them all, which one has surprised you the most, surprised as in better than you thought, or worse. I mean players you knew of before they were signed, not the likes of Pienaar, Yobo, Bily etc who the majority of us had never heard of. My biggest surprise was Beattie, who I thought would be a big success, but unfortunately was s**t, on the other hand Marcus Bent was bought for almost nothing helped us a lot in getting into Europe, and sold for a healthy profit.

Beattie was good up until we got Johnson, just like Johnson was good up until we got Yakubu etc etc

Biggest surprise: Most of me says Baines, I always thought he would take over from Lescott eventually but I certainly didn't expect him to become world class.

Gibson has to be another one purely because how cheap he was and how underwhelmed everyone was when he signed.

Biggest disappointment: Probably Bily or Beattie. They were both shocking considering the fees we paid for them.

Best and worse has to be Lee Carsley, i know Smith signed him and he was badly gash, but Davey turned his into a super player in praticular role. A lot of similarities to the Gibbo situation.

I think pound for pound Billy was prob our worse signing - good lad and we all appreciated the 1 in 20 pile dirver- but i say this in the sense that we had 9 mill that largely sat on the bench not working for us and we are not in the luxurious position of being able to absorb that, reslting in the team looking unbalanced for 3-4 years. You only have to look at the balance Belg Kev looks like he is bringing us and how ace we looked when we had Landon on loan to see the impact it had.

The really annoying thing about Bily was the flashes of brilliance you would get from him every now and again.
