Southampton are in trouble for the same reason that West Ham are. Unrealistic expectations.

In my lifetime both have been yo-yoing up and down the leagues. Have one or two good seasons and suddenly expect to be pushing for Europe by virtue of turning up. IMO both should aim to stay up first then take it from there.

Hope they both get relegated.

I always didn't understand why premier league midtable/bottom teams just switch around the same old dinosaurs. I'd mock them teams.

Oohhhhh Samy Samy, SamSamySamySamy Allardyce.

Hull brought in Silva , look how that worked out.
They then got Abramovich’s mate Slutsky
Look how that worked out
To a lot of clubs staying in the PL is success and relegation fears haunt them financially so they stay with tried and trusted managers who in the main have a record of keeping teams up

Pulis and Allardyce they do their job , others can I’m sure do better but they bring an element of risk and so many of this billionaires , when push comes to shove are risk adverse.

Think this must be it. Managing a prem football club is hard as balls and theres a lot on the line. Very few people are proven to do it well, and there's not even all that many who can do it averagely. So with Hughes and his ilk the chairman knows at least they'll be eleven blokes turning up, wearing the same kit, and doing their best. Take a flyer on Paul Ince or someone and you might not get that.

Think Hughes had a lot of promise as a young manager, but a bit like Moyes never got over the line with a major trophy, so fell back. You can say he had his opportunity with City, but they had no clue really at that time. Spending money like it was a gypsy wedding, on comedians like Robinho etc.

sadly noone improves beyond needing said managers because they hire them to keep them up which is a bitter cycle we are potentially joining.

It is funny though, one club sacks a manager for almost relegating them and then another hire them to keep them up. try describing that to someone who doesn't follow football.

He won't lose a moment's sleep over this.
He'll scuttle off somewhere warm, grow another goatee and wait for Sky to chuck his name in the mix for every vacant managerial post.
Then his phone will ring.......
Pathetic.
It's farcical how some managers who are repeatedly inept at managing a top club, bar a few relatively successful seasons, get new positions.

Take Mark Hughes as an example: he's got Stoke pretty much relegated yet Southampton, who are in a perilous position, instantly take him on.

I've put a little bet on Hodgson getting the boot next as even though he had a purple patch of results, they're back on a slump.

Oh, I really hope you clean up.
