Del and Mirallas could hurt teams and Pienaar especially around the start of the season was decent. They might have been inconsistent but what wingers aren't excluding the really great ones. However McGeady never looks like he's going to do anything, Atsu hasn't impressed, Piennar is either finished or will need a lot of time to get back as he's far off it and Mirallas is injured.

However we don't need to do either of those options regarding Naismith.

Given we have no wide players it's pretty clear we need to play a diamond with Naismith and Lukaku up top together and Barkley behind.

It puts a lot of offensive pressure on Barkley, Coleman and Baines to create the chances but frankly they're our best offensive players ironically considering two are defenders.

It might turn out to be a blessing in disguise because that's the formation I would have played from the start although I would have played Mirallas instead of Naismith.
Agreed a diamond is an option, but would be amazed if RM went for this. Even when we are getting beat, he never goes with 2 up top.

I know. It pisses me off.

That's why having Barkley, Besic, Naismith, Barry and McCarthy our only fit midfielders who are any good might be a blessing. It almost forces him to do it.

Plus Bobby isn't as inflexible as we first thought either. At times he's pretty much parked the bus or mixed up his formation/tactics when the need arose.

i've never thought he was inflexible. He introduced 3 at the back at Wigan because he knew he couldn't compete like-for-like with the big boys, so gave them something different to think about. Watch closely during a game and the formation is constantly changing - the full backs get in some weird positions, but, he seems pretty fixed on one main striker

We lost our main striking pivot number 10 the day before the season started.

So we are left with playing Naismith as a false number 10 and Lukaku as a false number 9, which means Baines has to play as an inverted number 11.

The Goat.....making football sound like bingo.....:drunk:

Both my most loved teams lost in the weekend. But I am proud of the performance and heart and never say die that both these teams displayed in hostile away territory. And I remain certain, that both Everton, and the All Blacks, will bounce back.

What's an inverted 11 in binary though, it's still Baines!
