I don't think it's too harsh to drop Jagielka. Conceding three at home is not acceptable. Something has to change and moving Lescott back to the centre and bringing Baines in on the left is one of the few options we have.
Baines looked sharp in his brief cameo against Villa, a start will do him as much good as a rest will do jags.

In the middle Cahill has been risible for weeks. I suspect his off-field problems are getting to him. He can worry about them better from the bench.
VDM came on and looked very hugry. As with Baines, a start will do him good. With him wide on the right we can move Ossie into the hole. He already take more shots at goal than anyone else in the midfield, he can score and his link up play is good. I don't think he's at his best playing onto a traditional centre forward so I'd be very intereseted to see what sort of partnership he could develop with Saha. Especially with someone of VDM's (as yet untapped) skill playing wide.

Its very harsh to drop him, he made one mistake - THE ENTIRE SEASON, he has been better than Yobo and Lescott this season, and still had a solid match apart from his mistake. HE conceded 2 goals, well he was at fault for one of them, the others - well the first one bad marking by the midfield, and the last Lescott shouldve got the ball.

To drop Jagielka would be ridiculous, if Moyes did it i really would think he had lost the plot.
 
Agreed mate. You cant drop Jags for one mistake all season. If that was the case Arteta, Yakubu, Cahill etc etc etc would have been dropped many times this season.

If we had a bigger squad with more (uninjured) prem standard midfielder they would have been.

I notice you're not arguing against dropping Cahill now we do suddenly have an option.

It really is simple, we played really well yeasteday, we made some stupid mistakes, which are eradicated though training and simply concentration.
There is no point in playing a weaker side because of an error or two,


  • Jags has been supreme, he made one mistake, he brushed himself of and had a good game either side of the error.


  • Yobo took control in a couple of situations where normally him and Howard would have left it for each other.


  • Lescott played one of his better games this season and cant be blamed for the 3rd goal, Ashley Young had the momentum and the pace.


  • Neville was solid again, he really has stepped up to the plate this season.


  • How people can say Howard played badly is beyond me, I'm not his biggest fan but yesterday he claimed everything and the 3 goals were all good finishes.


  • Arteta played well in the middle, put himself about, made a few cracking challenges to win the ball back, granted he lost the ball twice in key areas, but, he's still to get used to that role. He will flourish there.


  • Fellaini is simply the composure we've been lacking in the middle for some time and is still learning the English game.


  • Pienaar just had a good game, nothing great, nothing bad.


  • Anichebe was really good, he held it up well, so strong its unreal.

Now the only area I would debate in terms of the starting 11 vs City is Ossie and Cahill. Ossie came in and out of yesterdays game, he was ok for long periods, and wank for others. Cahill was very quiet, did very little in terms of supporting Anichebe. However, in andd around the area he wins key headers. So my team would be:

Howard
Neville Yobo Jags Lescott
Arteta
VDM Fellaini Pienaar
Cahill
Anichebe

Ossie is ineffective wide and we could do with some natural width and creativity, good balls in the box, good pace. I'm sure Van Der Meyde would have the beating of Michael Ball every time.

I think we'll play skme decent stuff here and hold our own. I'm worried about Robinho though, he seems a completely different player at home...
 
I feel with all the pent up frustration after the last minute defeat we take the game to City this week. I hope Saha's back but even if he isn't we will be good for two or three. I see Ossie and peanut turning on the jets and driving City crazy. Bounce back big time is my take.(y)

Also, Jags makes one glaring mistake and he is left out. No way he has saved our bacon so many times this year it isn't funny.
 
I know we're short up front, but to take a chance on Saha would be daft, hamstrings are delicate things and if he's not fully recovered by saturday he could do some serious damage, put him on for the last 15 in we're struggling, I think vic can hold his own in a 4-5-1 if cahill helps him out.

It was a muscle spasm, I'm not sure that's that bad to be honest.

Anichebe is also struggling with an injury.

I read on the OS that baz said it was a minor strain :unsure:

Either way I'd rather let Saha get back to 100% than Anichebe - we've got Chelsea after City and need some inspiration up top against them.
