This judas gone yet or what

Not yet lar

He's apparently been giving it large in town though

Loads of "I'd kick Bryan out of this bar if he were here"

And a fair amount of "That Bryan on GOT is a right whopper. He sits at home and listens to Cher Lloyd on his Sony Walkman and enjoys it in an unironic sense"

And, in something that I felt was crossing the line, he gave a fair few shouts of "Bryan has no idea how to season a casserole properly! And his chicken chasseur is always overcooked"

I had to leave at that point or I'd've lamped him myself!

8K is too low.

If Stones is on 30K then 25K would be about right.
If we're doing it comparatively, compared to stones he should be on about 3 shillings and a loaf. But then again Stones on that number is underpaid.

TBH 15-20 with bonuses would be alright but over that for a lad that basically played 10 games is a tad OTT. He could become the next baines then again he could become the next Macheda

Why do we have to replace him soon, he's a year younger than Ivanovic who is doing quite well in his dotage? What makes you think Oviedo isn't going to renew?

We also have a few promising academy graduates like Callum Conelly who playes as leftback for England U18s with Ledson and Kenny.
It's a long way to go from U18s to the premiership. So lets rule Conelly out.

Baines is 30 which means he probably has 2 more years before we have to start worrying however he has started to pick up a lot of injuries so we definitely need decent cover for those 2 years and possibly 3.

Oviedo is 25 coming to the peak of his career and has one year left which gives him all the power. Will he want to ride the bench for the remainder of most of his career? Will his wage demands be too much considering he will be on a free in 12 months? It is essentially all down to Oviedo which leaves us in a very risky position.

In a year's time we might need to buy cover for a 32 year old left back with injury problems.

I think we needed to tie Oviedo down before making the decision on Garbutt because if he wasn't willing to sign it makes more financial sense to give Garbutt what he wants and sell Oviedo now. If he was willing to sign then I would have let Garbutt go. Unfortunately we've done neither.

However I'm getting deja'vue now and I vaguely remember writing the same thing 12 months ago :-)

I've just been out to buy his shirt so I can burn it later.

I was thinking about getting his name on the 3rd kit next season

I'll wait and see now

Glad I waited till after the window before deciding whether to get Duffy on the back last season

I do however have a white and purple kit from this season with Eto'o on the back, bought during a moment of hubris

Stones, a full england international with two seasons behind him on 30 and 25 for a lad with what? ten starts? is correct?
No chance
Stones is a full international and playing because he had little in front of him except a 37 year old and bloody Alcaraz.

Garbutt has come close to matching when played the performance of the best left back in the league for the last 5 years.

It's not Garbutt's fault or doesn't change what he's worth just because Baines is ahead of him. We can dig our heels in and have to replace him in probably 12-36 months and find it very difficult to find a replacement at a reasonable amount.

Or pay him what he's worth. The agent isn't going to give a damn about our wage structure or what we think.

How about instead of spending all this energy worrying what is going to happen to our left back position in 12-24 months time we worry about our current winger situation where we have 3 players for 2 postions all of whom have injury problems and two of them have 1 year left on their contract ;)

Can't we worry about both?

Fair enough we'll agree to disagree

But personally don't recall seening Oviedo have a bad game for us and think he is generally excellent - even this year when coming back from injury and a long layoff De Gea needed to make a superb save to stop him scoring. Not even going to comment on selling Baines before Garbutt ;)

Spot on, Links.

In both posts.

Of the top five worries we have about next season, the reserve left back "conundrum" comes sixth on the list.
