Everton will meet with Luke Garbutt's representative later this week regarding new deal for young defender #EFC #GARBUTT #EFCTV

From ToffeeTV twitter. How reliable is this account?

If he wants out, let him. Hes decent but not really worth the wankathon
We had the same furore 18 months ago over Oviedo

In the meantime Baines was the best full back in the pl for about the [Poor language removed] hundreth time in history

No way he'd get 1mil signing on fee. TBH wouldnt want us trying to match that kind of money for someone so unproven

......his signing fee will probably be a reflection of his worth in the market. If he was contracted I presume given his age and status as an England U21 regular we would be looking at £3m with add ons. Whoever signs him is getting him for free with no add ons based on appearances or full England recognition. I suspect Garbutt's will be asking for £1m at least but that is my guesstimation.

They won't get him for free, we've offered him a contract so they'll have to pay us compensation, either through a tribunal or settle it with us outside court.

Would you match or come close to matching what Bournemouth are offering?

Financially it's a bit of a no brainer. I've seen enough to know this kid will be challenging Luke Shaw for the England left back position which puts his value around 15m-20m to replace (assuming we don't go with overvalued English players).

We will probably have to come close to matching his wage demands with a replacement assuming we buy someone older.

I don't really see financially how this works any other way except not wanting to wreck our wage structure.

I hate to say it. Teams don't set wage structures. The market does and if we don't pay what these players are worth then they will go somewhere else.

I suppose it all depends on how much Stones is on. We know Barkley is on 65K but the player he would most compare himself would be Stones.

And I know you might think that he shouldn't because Stones is a regular but so would Garbutt be if it wasn't for Baines. Stones has Alcaraz and Distin as competition.

I hope the club don't try and swim against the tide of the market's forces. It will end up costing them money.

That's the problem. We will need to replace him soon. With Oviedo on 1 year and Garbutt looking on his way out we aren't as flushed in this position as people think.

We know Barkley is on 65K so 40K is a good bit less than that but the player he would most compare himself would be Stones.

Stones Rumoured at the time to be 30k.

Gossip that Garbutt offered 8k, others suggest 25k, depends which source you believe, if any.
He has been offered over 25k per week

Not bad for less than ten starts

Why do we have to replace him soon, he's a year younger than Ivanovic who is doing quite well in his dotage? What makes you think Oviedo isn't going to renew?

We also have a few promising academy graduates like Callum Conelly who playes as leftback for England U18s with Ledson and Kenny.
