That's probably the total of what we had to spend if we got James out mate.

So James out relaxes the FFP a bit further (Kean will have helped but probably not enough to bring in Diaz on probably 80kish a week) and allows us to do the deal.

But that's what I've been trying to say about us not having a big budget, we really don't.

It's probably somewhere in the 20m mark but now come Jan we'll hopefully have more because of Vlasic, Kean etc. That might allow us to go back in for this deal.

Player wanted it, it was all club briefed so clearly they were confident.

Would be mad not to keep this on the back burner and go for him in Jan. United did it with Fernandes.

I do think they tried mate.

James was for the FFP reasons. We also didn't have enough in the budget to match what Porto wanted. So we tried to bridge the gap with James.

Issue is, Porto probably don't want a completely different type of player to replace Diaz (who is a rapid winger). And, James is on big wages so they probably didn't want to pay them.

Now I'm glad we aren't paying James to play for someone else, as that's part of the reason we're in this mess is decisions like that. But it's definitely a deal we should try again for in January.

No messing about, it's clear we wanted him and he wanted us, so go back in for it. We should have more leeway in the budget by then with the small fees coming in from today.
