So he's a bad player because he wants the ball??

And maybe siggyfraud would still be on set pieces of he could beat the first man

Not a bad player, but he certainly isn't the brightest.

As far as Siggy goes didn't he relinquish Digne from most set pieces by the end of the season? Digne seems to be the one who always struggles with the first man, and has literally hit the wall in every single free kick attempt since he last scored. He has no business taking them on the right or through the middle. He should stick to taking them on the left seeing as that's the only spot he has ever come close to scoring from.

Digne was our 2nd best player last season but don't pretend like he's flawless.

He was literally at fault for all 3 of the goals West Ham scored against us. He also scored that own goal against Southampton, got sent off after 11 min vs Huddersfield resulting in him being suspended against Wolves. He was at fault for a ridiculous amount of goals this season.

He's also a ball hog. With 2627 touches on the ball he had more than any other Everton player. Fair enough that a lot of our plays go down our left side but that's just ridiculous. He touches the ball more often than any of our forwards, midfielders or wingers. How many games did we lose purely because of this alone?

Jorginho is always called out for being a ball hog that does very little with it, and even he progresses our buildup play better while Digne generally just plays it between him & Bernard down the left by the corner flag. This in my opinion might be our bottleneck in attack.

As far as his goal contributions goes, he does have his fair share of moments this season but you can also just look at his G/A to see half of his goals were scored in the 5-1 vs Burnley and half of his assists were in losses vs City & Newcastle. That's 3 of his 6 G/A that essentially resulted in nothing.

Digne deserves credit for what he has done, but topping the chances created chart really isn't as impressive as it sounds seeing as he robbed Sigurdsson off of set piece duty & created 4x fewer goals from them. When you actually look at his stats from open play he only has 32 chances created. Meaning more than half of his key passes are from set pieces. Put any fullback on set pieces and it will add anywhere from 15-40+ chances created.

Heck Baines created 116 chances in 2012/13, the most chances of any player because he took literally every single set piece.

God I’d hate to have seen your analysis of the likes of Sandro and Bolasie after their first seasons with us, if that is your analysis of our best player last season.

You're saying the left-footed set piece taker should take free-kicks from the left? I thought that's when you want a right-footer?

If you take a look at both of Digne's FK goals this season they're both from the left.

Every single time he takes it anywhere else he hits the wall. He seems to be fundamentally incapable of even challenging the goal keeper unless if it's on the left.

I cannot take anyone seriously who says he was our best player last season. How can you compare him to Sigurdsson creating 27 of our 54 PL goals?

Literally 50% of our goals came through him. Then you might say Digne's defensive contributions somehow outweigh Gylfi's goal contributions, but even that doesn't make sense.

Ball recoveries? Gylfi 160 vs Digne 181

Tackles won? Gylfi 34 vs Digne 47

Blocked shots? Gylfi 32 vs Digne 13

Possession lost? Gylfi 547 vs Digne 726

Our playmaker actually outperforms Digne in some categories, and is only slightly behind in tackles & ball recoveries.

As far as Sandro & Bolasie go they're both crap. Anybody who has ever looked into their stats would know that.

You’re badly weird lad

If only there was an impartial way of gauging if he was our best player through out the season, say like a vote amongst 10's of thousands of fans or maybe one amongst his teammates

Lol the narrative has always been against Sigurdsson, his pricetag, set piece merchant, etc etc. Digne won it because it's a popularity contest. Gylfi created 50% of our goals, take the L.

Leave our player of the season alone you raging lunatic.

I did address the facts, that this is the player thread of our player of the season.

Popularity contest means absolutely nothing. Digne did not come anywhere close to Sigurdsson's significance in regards to directly contributing to 27 of our 54 PL goals.

This is like saying Jordi Alba should be POTY over Messi who created 55% of Barcelona's goals this season.

It means most people thought he was our player of the season. It matters not a jot what you think mate. Why are you talking as if a left back should be contributing to more goals than an attacking midfielder anyway?
