Looking likely that top 5 will be needed for Europe.

Swansea winning 2-0 just now means that Chelsea will need to score at least 3 in the second leg to make it possible for the League Cup EL spot to go to 6th place. Not likely.

The FA Cup would have to be contested in the final by two top five teams for that European spot to go to 6th, again not likely.

Forget 4th, we could be lucky to get into Europe at all...

FA cup runner up doesn't get jack any more. So long as citeh united or chelsea win it 6th should be sound enough.

According to Wiki:

If the FA Cup winners have already qualified for the UEFA Champions League, by Regulation 1.04,[SUP][1][/SUP] the runners-up qualify, taking the lowest Europa League spot (the League Cup spot - the League Cup inherits the League spot, and the League inherits the FA Cup spot); if they have also qualified for the Champions League, the next highest league finisher not already qualified for Europe takes the place. In either of these cases, if the new club has a lower league finish than a club starting in an earlier round, the clubs will swap their starting rounds.

Could be wrong but that's what i thought it was.

Doesn't the runner up get europa league footy if the winner is in champs league? Last year, the runner up was Liverpool, but cos' they'd already won League Cup the Europa Lge. place went to 6th place (Chelsea). However, because Chelsea won champs league - they got Spuds 4th spot, with Spurs taking 5th and Newcastle 6th.

So, it really just depends on who wins FA Cup. All we need to do is keep winning in both league and cup.

Two top 5 teams, actually.

And Chelsea could still win so don't worry.

If the FA Cup winners finish in the top 4 then their spot goes to the Cup runner up. If they finish 5th then their spot goes to the 6th placed team. If the runners up AND winners have already qualified for Europe via the league then the spot goes to the next highest team in the league.

The chances of 6th place being a Europe spot are looking slim.
