Current Affairs London Protests

Ah you mean literally just the words. We're going to pretend there's no movement whatsoever behind those words that is in any way political. We've just imagined it for the last month or so.

Sound.

They're not just words, they are the entire point.

Do you agree with the entire point, that black lives matter?

That we should have racial equality in this country?

What part of dismantling statues that celebrate oppression do you take issue with for the record?

According to Hickson, that never happened mate.

But if it did, I've explained it a few times - I think dismantling history instead of accepting it happened and learning from it is a poor course of action. It's a low hanging fruit to make certain people feel better in the short term, something visual so they feel they've achieved something, while putting up barriers to actual social change and equality by alienating people who feel targeting Churchill/Nelson etc. is offensive in it's own right.

Absolutely I agree with those words and the point - yes to those questions, firmly.

I don't, however, agree with the movement using those words as a title for themselves in many aspects.

Which means I'm the new Nick Griffin apparently.

The Bristol statue thing has been going on for years and is also irrelevant when compared to the wider issue.

Fair point.

You are now in the top 1% of people who have views other than BLOODY FORENS.

What are you going on about, using it as a title? The message is the entire bloody point.

And yes, Nick Griffin is against Black Lives Matter.

Simple yes or no question.

Do you think black lives matter?

Guess what answer the fascists would give. If you would give the same answer, then there you go.

Of course I think BLM matters, but the likes of my mum, who’s a pensioner, finds it all a bit frightening and disagrees strongly with smashing stuff up and webbing police officers.

I don’t think she’s in any rush to don her best Stone Island gear and head off to protect some statues in London with Tommy and the boys tbh.

She much rather be at home, feet up on her Parker Knoll, watching Countdown.

OK I'll try and phrase it in as clear way as possible what my view is.

Yes, I agree with the words "Black Lives Matter" and I firmly agree with the concept of racial equality.

Also, I disagree with quite a few of the aims and actions of Black Lives Matter as a movement, as I feel they are often counter productive.

I can't really add more to that so it's up to you to interpret that however you wish.

170 000 people marched in what was a largely peaceful and important protest, as set out by the Met Police themselves.

There were some isolated incidents, nothing was smashed up.

Whatever happened on the fringes doesn't take away from the message.

I'm glad you agree with that message by the way, that means we are on the same (and right) side.
