'sake. People protesting the George Floyd murder in this country.

Yeah, I get it. Down with the racists etc. Of course. It's important to register disgust.

But FFS this country is continuing to walk through a holocaust of older people.

HOW ABOUT PROTESTING THAT ON THE STREETS??!!
Well said that man

Not about George Floyd although he is a lightening rod, it's about black and brown people most at risk from this disease many who are looking after our older people in this crisis fed up of doffing their caps to institutional racsism.

So you're working on the basis of starting from zero-respect unless they specifically earn it?

Not zero but just ambivalence I guess.

You can normally tell if someone is alright or not fairly quickly so it's not like I will be doing a character study.

The police don’t charge at will mate an order has to be given based on the threat level and the actions of the crowd.

The person giving the order will be sat miles away monitoring a live feed, with an acute awareness that the whole thing will be on social media in seconds and all that that brings. The whole situation will have been evaluated based on restoring order and regaining control of the situation as quickly as possible, before it gets totally out of hand.

It’s not just one of the coppers shouting “ charge “ and all the rest piling in.

I am aware of that, however, each policeman will make individual decisions when charging/moving into a crowd with will affect the outcome.

For what it's worth, I have been 'involved' (chatted to me) with the police twice in my life and one was very reasonable and dealt with the fairly minor situation well.

Not in london, it's ok in london isnt it, hence why lockdown is over leaving the north to deal with R rates above 1!

Depends what you class as OK I suppose. London was always going to kick up again once everyone was going back to work. You cant really avoid people in London.

Their role, as in the attestation, is to ensure/cause the peace to be kept* and preserved and prevent all offences against people and property.

If the gathering is deemed to be breaching the peace or offences are being committed, they are obliged to act. Is it legal to charge if necessary? Yes.

*refrain or prevent others from disturbing civil order.
