Current Affairs London Protests

I don't agree with it but I understand that. One thing is, though, I've never seen this happen when there's been damage from other marches/protests/parades though?

And, have there been a lot of cenotaphs and war memorials defaced? This is a genuine question, as I know one person tried to burn the flag of a cenotaph? Was this repeated all over the country? I genuinely may have missed most of the stores because obviously the search terms are filled with today's protests

Given what happened last week, there was obviously some concern that the cenotaph in Whitehall would be targeted hence the mobilisation of people willing to protect it.

This had nothing to do with the right wing and football fan mobilisation, as all they want is a fight.

The cenotaph has been defaced before during countless demos - still doesn’t make it right. If it was known before those demos that it was a target then I’m sure the same ex forces types would have been there to keep an eye on it then.

I’ve no doubt a number of people were outraged by the cenotaph issue in particular and some of the other statues to a lesser degree and thought of preventing it happening again and despite the fact it sounds ridiculous to many I can empathise with the emotion . However Pretty quickly it became apparent what today would be about.
Totally agree. I can understand people being upset by it. Especially the cenotaph.
But the majority of people there today didn’t give a [Poor language removed] about it.
they were just furious that it was people of colour who did it.

I'm genuinely just asking - there weren't any other memorial damaged apart from the one flag at the cenotaph?

Just seems this is quite overkill for that so it's hard not to think that some may indeed be spoiling for a fight whilst others have been whipped up by the far right? If there was a lot more damage then maybe they can be understood

I think your opinion of them is too high because the BLM protests are just a convenient excuse for louts to get out, have a drink and scrap like they love to do.

Their racist views and tendencies are correlation rather than causation. They'd have be fighting with themselves if the opportunity had rose.

Fair point.

Don’t think so mate. Those spoiling for a fight are far right and football crews.

The nazi salutes are probably going a bit far, though.

Who seem to have whipped this whole thing up based on racism and a desire to harm the country. I'm not saying they are racists if they have been whipped up, just that they've been played by some very unpleasant people into thinking there was some existential threat to peace and the ability to memorialise the war dead
